I have a noise coming from the outside of my 2001. 5 6 speed 3500. I don't notice it much unless I am driving through an area with trees or houses lining the road. I can then hear it pretty good. It is a high pitched squeak that appears to be more of a drivetrain noise than a bouncy noise. It sounds like what a bad bearing might sound like but it is very intermittent, not constant. It also seems to momentarily stop when I depress the clutch, but it does not go away for long.

I know this is not much to go on, and I will keep on trying to pinpoint it... but I though I'd try just incase someone may have ideas as to what could make a noise like that.

To recap.

It sounds like it is coming from the rear of the truck but I can't be sure.

It is a loud squeak that is not constant and does not happen during certain events, very random.

It seems more drive related than bounce related. I can get a squeak out of the truck by pushing on the rear end, but not nearly as loud.

The truck has 50,000 miles on it, drives great with no noticeable problems.

Thanks

Carl

I'll be the first. Do you have rear disk brakes? It sounds to me like it could be brake dust, try rinsing the caliper and pad areas, not sure if drums will have the same problem.

My wife's Grand Cherokee was doing that. It was a small rock stuck on the edge of the brake caliper. I don't know how it got there. It had tar holding it on there.
