Hello diesel dudes (and dude-etts)

just joined

When I bought the truck (12/02) I got the jake brake deal.

It was installed last week. But wait it's a automatic and a 47re to boot. Am I in the' twilite zone ' do DO do do - do DO do do' or what?

what to do what to do what to do

what to do,what to do, what to do

Start reading up on upgrades for that automatic transmission, that is what I would be doing if I was you!!!:D :p

well let's see

right now I have a DC waranty on a jake brake and a transmission

If I dtt it or ats it -I have no DC warranty on transmission or jake

I really do not use this truck for pulling I just dont understand why a huge dealer ( probaly biggest in Utah) would do something against what cummins recomends.

Sure helps warm it up on these chilly mornings though

wait a minute

maybe I should pull with it --- real heavy with it

they say they don't make the 47re anymore and they replace with the 48

hmmmmmm what cha think

The 47RE in the '03 holds the torque converter locked even when you let off the throttle or use the brakes until about 38mph in O/D. If you lock out O/D on the downhills, it holds even better in direct drive. If the TC doesn't slip, it should be fine. I would use it but don't abuse it. Leave well enough alone and keep the warranty in good standing. Just my ever so humble I might see if my dealer will install one on mine opinion. :p

My Ford driving buddy filled out an order for an '03 standard output. It automatically selected the 48RE. This could be true!

Their is no longer a 47RE available for order. Both diesels and the V10 now come with the 48RE. However, If you grenade your '03 47RE I am not sure they will slap a 48RE in it's place. There may be a stockpile of the 47's just for warranty repairs so beware.

I'll let ya know how this set up works out.

This 03' locks up a whole lot better than my 98' does.

I imagine shee'll do just fine with light towing.

I'll be pullin' a 2 place snowmobile trailor up & down some purty good grades in a few days if that counts.

All my real towing is done with my druelly.

The main reasons I got the e-brake was to save on the trucks wheel brakes & to help speed up the warming time + the 400 dollar off was nice to.

I love these trucks and know that these 47re's can be 'built to the hilt' if I ever feel the 'need for speed'.

OK I'm starting to feel the 'need' I wonder what the 12 valve guys can do with my 98... ... ...

Well it's off to the 12 valVe forums

man i LOVE THIS STUFF

Thanks for the replies

A 47re with an e-brake from the dealer, sound like the dealer made a big mistake. I don't know that DC would stand behind that, since the dealer adds the e-brake. At this point, I don't think even the 48re has been approved for an e-brake yet, though that is supposed to be in the works. I had not heard anything about the 47re being approved, even with the Standard Output CTD. You may only have a warranty at the dealer that did the work. Others may look at that install, talk to DC, and then the dealer that did it would probably get a "talking to" - leaving you in the middle of a dispute.

If you want to be sure you have a warranty anywhere, I would talk to DC Customer Service; but be prepared for them to tell you you can have your money back but the e-brake has to come off.

Ive heard the 48RE is E brake ready right from the factory. IU wouldnt hesistate to put one on a 48RE. The 47RE your taking a chance,IMO. But if the dealer installed it they will have to stand behind it,so see how long it will last and enjoy the warranty. The 03 I drove had a much improved program, and held the TC locked even off throttle, this should let it work good with the E brake.

The salesman knew I wanted a jake in whatever truck i bought. It was up to them to find a truck it would work on. Auto or stick wasn't an issue.

I wonder if its the only 03 out there with one insalled (47re)

Doesn't DC require a jake to pull above a certian weight? I would like the option to use it over the duelly every now & then.

I dont want my mony back. ; I want a truck with an e-brake.

Snowman and djbobo,

I read the 48re was "e-brake compatible" months age; but DC is still testing, and I could not order the e-brake with the 48re as recently as December. When I took delivery 3 weeks ago, they were still saying they had not seen approval from DC for putting the e-brake on any automatic/CTD. Without that approval, if the damage to the automatic can be blamed on the e-brake, then the warranty from DC is no applicable - which is why I cautioned about contacting Customer Service if that is necessary. If djbobo wants to stay within towing distance of the dealer that put on the e-brake, it may not be a problem.

Personally, since the e-brake can be added any time I am waiting for DC to issue their approval first. They recommend an e-brake for loads over 10,000 with a stick, but not with the automatic - at least not as of 3 weeks ago. Does anyone have more recent info?

I ordered a jacobs e brake for my 03 DC 48re, and today was told it is not available. I begged to differ, so the dealer called jacobs and made it official, not available yet. However they (jacobs) were very interested in how I found out that one was coming. They apparently don"t like leaks of information.

Just tell them to read the TDR. I appreciate all the inside information from members who work for DC, Cummins, etc. on what is really happening - often well before the corporations want to make the announcement.

I have 15,000 kms on my 03 47RE with no problems at all. I also am running a Pressureloc and the prototype Towloc. They all work great. Oh I almost forgot to mention that it is a BD brake.
