Ok, short story. .
Recently I broke my Differential. (don't ask how, I just did
)
Well, my local shop "fixed it" with some old "spider" gears, and the other day (Friday the 20th) it broke again, I assume a bad part.
Well, both times it broke, it took a few gears out of the "tone ring". This ring that tells the Rear-Wheel Speed sensor how fast the rear-end is turning, it also tells when to apply the ABS.
Having a tooth or two missing from this ring puts the truck into ABS mode and I have to stop with my front brakes only. (Rear wheel ABS) This problem has caused me to skid to a comlete stop several times, beacuase the ABS turns on, and I loose all rear braking. (try stopping 7. 5 thousand pounds with only 490 millimeters of rubber. )
I called my local Dodge dealer, and quoted me $235 for this tone ring, and I figured I would put my money somewhere else instead.
Now I need to know how to disable the ABS pump the proper way.
Has anybody ever disabled this pump? I know I COULD just pull the fuse, but I was hopiing I could disable it somehow without having my instrument panel light up like a Christmas tree.
I got around to thinking if I could make the ABS pump turn on and off Manually, it would be really helpfull, and right down cool.
I was hoping this might be done as easily as maybe just crossing two wires close to the pump, to make it turn on with a switch.
Any ideas?
New differential will be installed on Friday the 27th and the truck is wearing out front brake pads very quick, with this ABS situation.
Thanks,
MerrickNJr
