Ok guys, I did a search on this code and it sounds like a transmission related problem.

One thread the guy said he was a messin' with the dash lights, then threw the same code. I too just installed a combo gauge and had the dimmer/light switch out to get at the wires for the gauge lights. While I had the switch out, for about 5 minutes, the dinger went off, and then stopped, then went on again, and then off, course by that time I had it all hooked up anyway!

One other post talked about replacing the TCM , and a wire harness.

Both of these posts were fairly old, so I am wondering if there has been any new information since then?

This is a dealer diagnostic item I assume, and want all the info you guys can share, before I make the attempt at getting it corrected.

TIA.....

rbattelle, thanks for the reply!

I did read your thread also, seems there isn't too many people that have had that code,= not too much info on it.

It's odd that maybe working in the dash area, may cause a transmission code, although on our 94 Plymouth Voyager, we had the thing go into "limp" mode, after the tailgate had popped open on the road! We had the recalll done for that 2 times because the first recall was done with a defective latch, and finally got a good one. It always amazes me how these computer controlled auto's, have so many systems interrelated.

I will post more when I find out whats going on with the truck :)

followup

Went to Vancouver Dodge and had the teck guy check on this code, he put the magic box on and said there was no code,,,so I said then why does it show up when I do the ignition switch thing?

He said there is 2 control moduals , the ECM and TCM that comunicate with each other, and anytime the ignition switch is on, and something is unpluged, (like the headlight switch) ,there will be that specific code set, it's just a generic code that don't meen anything, unless it is accompanied by a check engine light.

He cleared the code, and I'm good to go!!!

So we can all benefit from this I think.

Oh, I almost forgot... the p0700 was stored in the ECM, and not the TCM.

Thanks

Plazman,

Many thanks for the info on this! It is funny how seemingly unrelated items on a heavily computer-controlled machine can actually be related. I hope this code doesn't reappear on you. :)
