I heard there is a computer you can install in your truck that will increase your mileage up to 30+ mpg, but with a flip of switch you can tow away again. Any ideas or truth to what I am hearing????

sounds like alot of crap...

if it where possible to get almost double of mpg why would not dodge engineers think of that?

Yeah, I think Ford developed it, but, since Ford owns Cummins and sells motors to Dodge they won't let Cummins use it.

Competitive advantage and all.

Can't put it on a Dodge truck either becuase Dodges don't have the sercret squirrel password for the computer to work.

:D

Yeah, it's manufactured by the Fish Carburetor company. :-laf

I've got some titanium based moly coating water burning snake oil here on the shelf that will triple your fuel mileage plus find all of your kids a high paying job... ... ..... :-laf

Plus I'll throw in a second one free, just pay the additional $15. 00 shipping and handling charges. (That one is my favorite)... ..... ;)

I know about this computer. Actually seen it in use.

It is called a 'downhill computer'.

Someone tried to sell me one of them years back. It was called a "Rolls-Kinardly Module". With it, your truck rolls down one hill and kinardly make it up the next.

On the serious side, if you have a single-rear-wheel, manual trans and 2WD, you might be able to get 24-26 MPG if you advance your injection timing significantly. But I've been satisfied with 18-20 MPG running empty with my '98 4WD 2500 with 'near stock' fueling.

I have some ocean front property in Arizona too... ... ... ...

MG, with the only positive response to your post... When you see the proof we would like to see it. Never mind the closed minds.

MG, we are teasing. .

plus if such a thing existed then the Feds wouldn't be cramming the thousands of dollars worth of systems implemented in '07 and '10 for reduced emissions and improved efficiency down our throats plus the 2011 class 8 trucks would start selling again.

If you find an improvement let us know.

I would love to see something different than a DPF, plus an aftertreatment device, plus urea, plus all the stinking electronics to run it all.

The fact of the matter is that, given current and upcoming CAFE fuel economy standards and competitive pressures, a Dodge or Cummins engineer would throw his mother under a bus to gain 0. 5MPG while meeting applicable EPA emissions and noise regulations. There are no silver bullets that will allow these trucks to get 30 MPG while remaining EPA compliant and still able to handle their GCWRs. Period.

If I keep my speed under 60 mph, I get 24-25 mpg empty. 70 mph only returns about 20 mpg. I've got more time than money so you can guess how fast I roll.

It is funny how they keep trying to reduce emissions but you burn more fuel to to go the same miles, so isn't that putting more emissions in the air?

I've said this for 40 years! Make the motor less efficient to lower polutants while burning more of the fuel that causes polution!!!???

I have 2 extray ecm with my truck (love buying form ansd ex cummins engineer) One is expost to have a good cal for fuel. But i never hucked it up and now i have a new vp44 with mech advance...

No, that doesn't always follow. Certain type of emissions can only be lowered by reducing the efficiency of the combustion event. The offset to that is the other emissions created by the colder burn. Thats why we have a CAT, DPF and ReGen systems. The newer less efficient engines are actually much cleaner than the older more efficient ones.
