Dallas had a heavy rain yesterday, this morning I get up to get into my truck and the rear under seat storage bins that came factory in my truck are soaked!!!!!! Just under the rear driver and on passenger side back seats. Not in the middle, no carpet anywhere else is wet.

Anyone else ever have this happen?

Assuming your windows were all closed, the third brake light has been known to leak and reports like yours have been reported. My second gen had the same issue. Forth gen hasn't leaked yet. A great engine, trans etc. but sealing a light leak after at least 20 years of reports seems to be beyond FCAs ability. This is a sore spot for me, a 60k truck we expect dry interiors and tie rod ends that don't snap off. These are all basic components that haven't changed in generations.

Mine developed a nasty leak this spring. The gasket (if that's what you call it) is paper thin. I re sealed it with some permatex stuff designed for glass.

Well I figured it out.

Removed 3rd brake light screws and housing, some water came out but none inside, used some heavy duty clear silicone and reinstalled.

Pressed down on sat antenna by luck and water squirted out at me, so I removed the passenger rear seat belt pillar Phillips head screwdriver ( suggest magnetic screw driver), t20 screw holding in the coat hook on same side, pulled head liner down and removed the 10mm screw holding antenna in place. Unclip yellow connector coming from antenna, just and easy push and pull

Now I broke the plastic clips that add a little extra security to holding antenna in place to remove it but the silicone I use will be better at holding it. I drained the water out of the sat,. Covered bottom in silicone as well as the outline of where it mounts to cab and reinstalled. Shouldn't leak anymore and if it does I have bigger problems.

Tried to make it sweet and simple to fix for those with future issues.

I basically used enough silicone for it to start oozing out the sides once I tightened everything back down and then just wiped all the excess off with a shop towel.

Maybe next I'll paint the headliner black to cover the water spots in the rear.

I got the water spots off my headliner and seats with the aerosol can of upholstery shampoo with the scrub brush on the end. I believe it was made by Turtle Wax.

I had wrecked the roof on my truck two years ago. he body shop put in a new driver's side cab corner and roof. That's when the fun started. The rear window leaked thought it got fixed.... Nope it's the pinch weld.... Nope ended up being the third light. you'd be amazed how water can travel all over the place in side the cab. I'd install LED lamps and seal it up and forget about it.

We use about 100-200 tubes of silicone a year. The GE stuff is bad about 20% of the time. 1 in 5. They look cloudy and gritty. They do not cure. If using that brand we do a test spot to see if it skins. Then leave a dab on a paper towel over night to check that it cures.
If you want good silicone easily available get the Ace Hardware brand. It is not low VOC and stinks like the good old stuff. But, it is extremely clear and cures much better. I have never had a bad tube using that brand. FYI.

Did it look anything like this? This leak has been around on RAM trucks since at least 1995! Many threads on this site. Chrysler/FCA/RAM engineers/designers should be ashamed that they haven't fixed this in over 20 years!

This happened to my truck when it was only a month old. Two inches of water in the storage area. Dealer siliconed the third brake light and tried to give the truck back to me with water still there. I made them dry it out!

I couldn't agree more.

It sure did, except with all my work tools and power drills and a bunch of other stuff that I thought was safe in there. Truck is way out of warranty at this point so I did it all myself.

I don't understand how this can still be an issue for Ram trucks. How are they not catching this stuff in the design and production process?

Yeah. What makes us think FCA or Ram can fix the vibrating trucks if they can not after 20 years fix a third brake light seal. Elementary at best.
