Well, it finally happened. I was on my way back from getting some food this morning, and was getting on the highway, accelerating, and BOOM!!!!! WHOA!  What the heck was that?? No power, and a funny sound... . I kill the motor, and coast off the highway to a parking lot. I open the hose that connects the air cleaner to the compressor, and everything is shot! Let me know if you want the pics. . it says they are too big to post on here. Great pics of it though! The shaft is nowhere to be found! :--) I guess It's time for a Piers HX-40 replacement!!!!:D Its just not the way I wanted to do it though! My Email is -- email address removed --, so IM me, or let me know if you want the pics I took! I am going to keep the fried pinwheel and use it as a conversation piece too!! :p Oh well, I am out!

That's awful... At least you have a reason now for the HX40 though! How many miles do you have on that turbo? You are not too heavily bombed...

I had 166,000 mi on the dash, with the 285-75-16 tires probably making it close to 184,000 actual miles on it. I was getting 47 psi of boost at times this past week, since I had put Greg's old delivery valves in! Shoot me an Email Address, and I would LOVE to show ya what I did! My big thing, is I dont think many people with a #11, 191's, and a simple boost elbow can mash it to 47 PSI! I may be wrong, but I am sure that is part of the problem. I may have over spun the turbo... Some people told me I may do that, but Oh well! Time for a big boy!

When you get your new turbo try to keep the boost under 35 psi. The only thing higher pressures will do is jack your egts sky high, you might have more power but it's unusable.

Well, HX35 is officially off the truck!!! :) Now the only problem, is getting the intercooler off the truck... see my photo gallery and look at the brushgaurd on the front... . I am about to invest in an air compressor, and some air powered toys! :-laf ARRGH!!! Gotta love those air tools!! Well, I am burning daylight. . I will keep y'all posted with the progress!

-Chris-

Didn't DonM fish 1/2 of the shaft & the exhaust impeller out of the muffler?

Don also did the intercooler drain thing ... may want to drop Don & e-mail.

I honestly think that 48 PSI is the record for stock HX35-12, #11 plate, boost elbow, and 191's..... If y'all know of anyone who has peaked higher, please let me know... I would like to know if I have bragging rights or not!! :p

Chris,, You need to get TIT ! :D

Turbine Inlet Temperature.

The post-turbo is nice for cool down and stock motors, not for Bombed ones.

Spining my HX-35/12 to ~39PSI would yield 1700* real fast.

Better move that probe to get the T. I. T.

You'll be suprised.

TidBit of information... An HX-35 making 38PSI heats the air going into the intercooler to 400*. I wonder how hot 47-48PSI is heating the air.

Just my $. 02

Merrick Cummings Jr

EDIT: How about water temperature? EGT over 1300*+ will move my water gauge up. 1400*+ and I'm gonna overheat within a few minutes. Just my experiance.

I'm afriad my stock HX35 12cm was headed for the same place. I was getting 45# at wot and it was getting easier and easier to bark it. When I pulled it out to replace it, I noticed one small area where at one point or another the compressor wheel had grazed against the side of the housing.

I cannot Thank you enough for posting those on a page!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!!!!!:-laf :-laf So, What did y'all rate it??? I think there may be damage in the cylinder walls, though I pray there is not!!! Otherwise, that will be another loan the bank will have to give me to get the motor rebuilt... No good!  I have everything ordered from PDR, and they said the HX40 is going to take like 2 weeks to get there before they can ship it to me... DOH!!! I am driving Mom's Z-71, which if I could, would take the seats out of it and place them in my Dodge, as well as the antenna on the stereo... . I can get my favorite station, 92. 1 KNBT, New Braunfels, TX on there, all the way across town!! Check them out at www.radionewbraunfels.com.... They were voted Americana Station (ALT COUNTRY) of the year... Great Station! I will keep y'all updated on the progress!!!!

Man I hate the looks of that turbo, wonder if I will remember that when mine is a 40 PSI... . wonder if I should buy a new Piers modified one. I hope that EGT guage was on the rise cause you need some fuel.

Jim

Well, CON OFE is on the way... . Harry at Piers told me the HX40's are going to take 2 more weeks to ship out... . Ok, cool... . I am thinking of taking care of the KDP while all is disassembled too..... ANYONE IN TEXAS OR CLOSE HAVE A KDP JIG?? I would really like to borrow one to fix mine... . Let me know... . Truck is still waiting on parts to get her back together, and this Gasser Z-71 is nice, but I miss my Smoke Show!!!! I will keep y'all updated!
