Sorry to ask a stupid question, but i have yet to have any luck under "Search". I am ordering the Mag-Hytec "Double Deep" for my 01' 2500 and want to order the Amsoil Synthetic ATF. My question is, how many quarts do i order?, I thought i remembered it was 22 quarts??? Am i close?.

Second, how do i get all the ATF out of the transmission/TC. I heard you remove a cooler line and start the truck and put in neutral and let it dump into a bucket and as soon as it stops spraying, shut down. Is this correct? Is there an easier or better way?

Also, if i do it this way, do i take the pan off FIRST, then with the pan off start it and let the remaining fluid drain? Or do i drain it all this way?

Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated

From the Mag-Hytek installation instructions:

Regular deep pan:

Remove the dipstick and add in the new ATF or ("LE" 7500 Monolec Power Fluid for severe and HD applications). The Mag-Hytec 727 -D ( Deep pan) holds 6. 5 qts. of oil. 1. 5 quarts of oil over a stock pan. Fill to full line on dipstick

Double deep pan:

Remove the dipstick and add in the new ATF or "LE" 7500 Monolec Power Fluid for severe and HD applications}. The Mag-Hytec 727 -DD (Double Deep pan) holds 9 qts. of oil. 4 quarts of oil over a stock 96 pan. Fill to full line on dipstick.

Hope this helps. ;)

I recall figuring I needed 19 qts for my double deep pan... . to completely change the fluid. But I can't remember exactly. If I can find my notes where I wrote it down I'll post.

But almost positive I had planned on buying 19qts... . so I was just gonna get 2 cases (24qts). Might as well do the transfer case too.

to get all old fluid out

click search . type in auto trans fluid change . read hammersleys post [missing the easy way] and it will tell you some basics . then read some other posts at the same search location and I will gaurantee that you will find some easy ways to accomplish a clean changeout. one even describes how a dealer does it.

These guys are smart:cool: I'm not much of a mechanic and I can understand them. :)

EMD-- did you find the thread?

I hope you found the threads I described in the search I made. They basically describe changing the fluid in just the pan and filter first -- then pump new fluid into the rest of the transmission and catching it out of the return line [disconnected] before it can mix with the new fluid . Make up fluid is added as the truck is pumping out the old and when the color changes you're done.

I'm still not gonna trade in my six speed to try it out, though;)
