My Friend has a 81 VW Rabbit. It has a newer jetta motor and is turbo. I turnd the pump up 5 months or so ago. Aney way he just got 2 1/4stright pipe in it and I mean It will smoke like a fright train, I am jellous I think it smokes more than my truck. But I love it seeing a rabbit smoke, just gets me off Oo. Next is a intercooler and boost guage!!! Aney other tips On bombing a VW rabbit with a pump like a first gen but smaller is helpfull. Thanks Justin

I work for BNSF Ry out of KC, Ks. I run 224 miles to Wellington, KS. & layover. I keep my old 81 VW pickup down there to tear around in. It has about 225,000 miles on it now, & still runs good. The pump has been messed with a little, and it will through out a big cloud of smoke while accelerating hard. I change the fuel filter every 4 years, and the oil gets changed once a year at the most. I have had it for about 20 years, and can change the head and/or tinming belt with my eyes shut! Just can't stand to get rid of it, and might last another 8 1/2 years until we can both retire.

smoking rabbit

I had an 80 rabbit with new engine in it, but non turbo. They will smoke from just pushing the accelerator all the way without any rpm. They guy I sold it to said 'it puts out a lot of black smoke'

I asked if it was just when accelerating hard and when the pedal is all the way down on freeway. Yep. I explained when accelerating or on freeway, ease onto pedal just enough to keep it from smoking because it gives it all the fuel it can without regards to engine speed. Surprise, it worked when he just eased into the pedal. I guess turbo don't do that because fuel is comtrolled somewhat by boost? So, I guess if you have a smokin turbo, then you got a smokin' car. Anyway, this one would go over 80 with a long run and just slight downhill. However, when I got tailgaters... yep worked everytime. The Isuzu I had with 360K would put a bit of oil in the smoke, those folks would back off fast:-laf

I enjoy providing a shot of smoke as needed to those following too closely my '81 rabbit with 218 thousand miles on it. I have owned it for 18 years and have not had to replace the head gasket since I used studs instead of stretch bolts about 15 years ago;).
