Carrier bearing??? Where can I get one fast?

Tranmission makes a rotating knocking sound in first and second. U Joints are fine. Dealership agrees it is the transmission and thinks it is a bearing. I have an extended warranty but I was at 101600 before I got it into the shop. Chrysler says they may be "inclined to help" as I have had no claims against the warranty. However, I must pay for a complete teardown inspection "then" they will make their decision ($400. 00). At least they are considering it I guess.

I can buy a rebuilt transmission for 1895. 00 here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7914854647&category=33727

Has anybody had any smiliar experiences with this transmission that may help me make my decision?

Yeah, you have "them" tear it down and low and behold... . the truck can't move. So, you are stuck and they will want to have you pay them to finish up the job.

Did you say anything to them about the noise before the 100k miles expired? If so, I think that should be good for the warranty.

Is it possible this is a clutch problem? Remember the early '03s had a problem with the clutch making a knocking noise (although this was in neutral). Just a thought.

My advice is to shell out the $400 for them to pull the transmission and inspect. If you need a new transmission, they'll have to pull it anyways. What other choice is there? If you let them inspect it, they *might* replace it free. If you don't let them pull it, you'll have to do it yourself and that transmission is HEAVY.

Dealership called me... problem was two bearing sets. One they said had many pock marks. Syncros and everything else looked good. I am having them check the clutch good to see if I want to replace it while everything is out. I haven't found out yet if the warranty will cover part or all.

Any ideas on what would cause the bearings to go out? Could the Royal Purple be too light of an oil? I heard it is lighter than the Redline. Is this true?

Well, Chrysler came through... the extended warranty is going to cover everything but the clutch and my deductible. Good thing, was a $2200 job not including the clutch. South Bend clutch is on the way. Anxious to get my truck back and get back to work.

I have found a real good service writer to work with at Anchorage Chrysler Dodge. Straight up, listens and acknowledges I know a bit of what I am talking about. His name is Greg Wigren. I have had some pretty negative experiences at this dealership but dealing with this guy has made it much better.

That is great news about the dealer helping you. Most the stories seem to go the other direction. I bet you can't wait to get back on the road again!

The NV5600 came stock with Dino trany oil and that is what Mopar specifies. Are you saying you used Royal Purple synthetic? If so, I'm surprised they didn't hassle you about using synthetic trany oil. I'm not trying to suggest that the trany oil caused your problem, just that they could have denied your warranty claim if they knew about the synthetic oil in the trany.
