I removed the head off my 98 12v becasue it was eatting coolent the coolent is clean and there is no traces in the oil. I had the head off two months ago and had it shaved cleaned and vavles changed the reason i took it off is that there was oil in the coolent. I over heated ita month later due to it being way to hot outside and pulling a large load. Im taling the head in AGAIN tomorrow to get it pressure tested. What eles should we do?

Ok so i just got my head back lastnight from the machine shop it came back ok he pressure checked it twice once cold and once warm. We also went a head and checked the cyclinder walls for any cracks and they look like new. I also herd that if you have a head problem or cracked block that the engines compression would over ride the coolent leak and try to blow the rad cap off because the compression is higher than the 15 psi which is in the cooling system?? Where else should a peron look for this leak??

I got her running again tonight runs nice and smooth found out i need a thurmostate gasket no big deal there. .

If it's an Auto, make sure it is not getting into the transmission! There is a Coolant to transmission fluid heat exchanger... ... . P.

about all you can do to the head is pressure test it or magnaflux it. how hot did your shop get the head testing it when warm? i have seen heads at my shop pass presure testing but found cracks with the magnaflux powder and magnet. until that head is warm or up to temp you'll be fine. when it's hot it might start ******* coolant through the crack cause it will open up. only other thing to do is get the head resurfaced so it's true. but make sure your block is also true.

Well Guess what its been a week since its been on and yup the machine shop FD UP!!!!!! they told me it was fine and i was inspecting i today and found 6 leaks above every lower clyclender bolt in between the exhust and also leaking at the back somewere. . What do i do this will be the 3rd time off im getting really ****** about it now.

i would say it's time for a new head. or see if you can find a core that a shop or person has and just get the bare casting. then swap your parts into the good head. that would be the cheapest way to go.

i could try and help you out finding core but my shop mostly deals with small block chevys for circle track racing. do a search on the web to find a casting. i've seen advertising in TDR and other mags for head shops. best of luck and hopefully you find something soon.
