I traded my 98 12ver for an 03 and have been reserching bombs for it Just wanted to tell you guys I miss you These CR guys are all high tech and stuff not simple like the 12ver My advice on tradeing DONT DO IT Dont give in I needed room for the new addition to the family I sure miss my old truck

I feel your pain Hardie, but you should have known better than do a thing like that to your '98. I looked long and hard before I finally got my '98 12 valve and none of the new trucks appeal to me, but my wife would take one in a heart beat. Something about the duel exhaust, and me saying "huh" all the time when cruzing down the road. :D

With all the grief my '96 caused me I was really wishing I had my '03 back! The 12-valve was seeming pretty complex, being it was impossible to ostracize it of an irritating miss. I added a '98 12v recently which so far has been a nice truck, so I'm happy for now :)

Everytime a piece of interior plastic goes South inside my truck (dash, window channel wheels, etc. ) I threaten to go out and purchase a new one.

I don't miss either one of my old 12 valvers.

The 02 24V was s nice truck, but not really what I wanted.

Now, I LOVE the 04 Common Rail. With just a Smarty I'm putting more to the ground than I was in my 97 with the #10 plate, GSK and 370 injectors for less money. Without the EGT problems I had on the 97.

If you want smoke, just run a Smarty and a TST box, you'll get smoke. I can fog two lanes of traffic if I want to.

Plus, I can turn it all off if I need to.

Lets not forget the fold flat floor on the quad cab. Use it once, and you're hooked for good.

You old geezers don't know what you're missing. I'll bet you still crank your windows and pay cash :-laf

yup, I saw the writing on the wall at a dyno day when I made 440rwhp w/ 370's, #0 plate, HX40 with EGT's burying the 1600* pyro and AggieLR pulled his 03 SO onto the rollers with ZERO MODS except a TST and put down 400rwhp with minimal smoke and a slipping clutch... not even on the high setting!

with my 12v, I gotta run twins to have a decent powerband and EGT control... 3rd gen you slap on a decent single and go

my whole thing is money... buying a used 3rd gen doesn't really make much sense when you can buy new ones so cheap here in TX... so all of a sudden, I'm looking at a $30k truck that I'm going to throw another $5-10k at pretty quickly and I'll be worrying about warranty, etc.

so I'm slumming it in the 98... could be worse I guess

12 valve trucks are cool but definitely not simple. I wonder how many more moving parts are in a 12 valve injection system compared to a Common Rail???

I picked up my 04 with 82K on it for less than 21K. Sport with the 305HP and auto transmission. That left me with little warranty to worry about and a few extra bucks for the HotRodDiesels transmission going in it this week. Just in time for the big race next month.

I do like the fact that you can swap 12V injectors pretty quick, and the free HP you get from sliding the plate is nice too, at first. But, that just opens the cage door to the slippery slope we all know about.

You only make that mistake once. Sooner or later youll have another 12ver in the driveway.

Sorry just the sound alone of the 12v engine is enough to keep me away from getting another common rail. Music to my ears.

Ah, but you have to know when to quit. Get it like you want and resist the temptation. Being broke helps do that. :D

Ah Hoot...

Keep it up with the old geezers stuff and I may tie you to those train trumpets and use the whole tank on you. :-laf :-laf .

I almost had a stupid attack and got rid of mine, thank goodness that another member made me see the light and keep it,LOL. Now once I rid it of the rowing box and slide in one of those hard hitting slushboxes I will be happy. I figure the motor work which I had done, the redo on the front end,New sneakers and wheels and then add me one of those nice automatics and rid myself of the stick and it will be all new again. Its so nice when you have the title all to yourself... ... ... . Andy

I traded 2 YES 2!! 12 valvers in on my 03 almost 4 years ago. Yes I love the 03 , have 154k on it and use it hard, but I just added a ' 93 W250 CC 5 speed to the fleet 2 weeks ago ! :D Has 30k less on it then my 03 does!!

To para-phrase a greate American ... "you can have my '97 12-valve when you pry it from my cold dead fingers".

Not me brother ... I wouldn't even trade it straight up for a new '06.

Why you impudent young'en! You and your e-lec-tronic gizzmos and wizbangs. When your sitting on the side of the road when your com-pu-ter goes haywire ... I'll be the one laughing as I drive by in Ol' Reliable. :D

All I can say is... look at my sig ;) Nothing like the sweet music of a 12 valver but the 3rd gen (even 4X4 vs 2X4) rides 200% better and more comfy then the ole '92. I do get get offers of people wanting to buy the 92 and nobody wants the 05. What does that tell you?? :-laf
