I have a carrier bearing ( driveshaft center support) going out on my truck. I went down to NAPA to get another one and new U-Joints. They found the U-Joints with no problem. But they couldn't find a number for a carrier bearing assy. If anyone has a number let me know.

Their books have changed in the last 5 years when I replaced them the first time.

I had the same problem when I went to get mine also. So I went to Advanced auto parts and they had in stock. Other than that I would recomend going staight to Dodge just for quality.

Hopefully someone else may have the part # from napa but I was never able to find it. Hope this helps

I put one in one of my trucks several years ago had to get it for a d700 truck because there books didn't show the diesel shaft and the one for the gas was to small so we mesured it and it was the same as the D700 dodge big truck.

The NAPA branded one is good quality. It has been in the truck for 5 years and almost 60k miles. When I replaced the orginal one it had a little over 92k on it. But it should have been replaced around 70k from the looks of it.

You have a number on the one from Advanced auto. We don't have that company around here. NAPA can cross it.

The book we looked in only showed up to 89 on diesel trucks. 90 to 93 was no listing. The computer was the same way.

I did some research and found three numbers you can try for BCA Bearings.

#88107 Driveshaft Support Bearing; Spicer 1280/1310; 1. 378" (35mm) Brg. ID; Slip Yoke Style

#HB88107A Driveshaft Support Assy. ; Spicer 1280/1310; 1. 378" (35mm) Brg. ID; Slip Yoke Style

#HB88107B Driveshaft Support Assy. ; Spicer 1280/1310; 1. 378" (35mm) Brg. ID; Slip Yoke Style; Opt. w/Slingers

Give these numbers to your favorite parts guy.

If there is a driveshaft shop in your area, give 'em a call. I had one put on my 71 when I got it. I took 'em the shaft and had them press it on too. Cost was quite reasonable as I recall.

I remember someone saying about u-joints awhile back, 'get some spicer u-joints and be done with it'..... also Napa's u-joint strap and bolt kit didn't fit worth a darn over my spicer 5-160x joints, used the bolts from the kit, and old spicer straps. Sorry I figured this went along with your carrier bearing thread.

That one looks like the one I have installed now. I'll try it this weekend.

The HBxxxxxA is a lighter version. The bearing part looks the same. But the mounting bracket is a lot lighter model than the B is.

I didn't look at the 88107 model. They didn't have one in stock.

Thanks AK

"A drive shaft shop". Closest one of those is 65 miles away. This town is so small. I am suprised they don't roll the side walks up and put then away at night. :-laf :-laf

Bill I know about the strap kits from NAPA I have seen the same problems on a couple of kits over the years.

Hey Philip,

I just talked to Johnny in at NAPA and told him I needed a 1. 375 carrier bearing for a Dodge truck. He walked to the shelf and picked it up. Don't ask Gary, he is a grouchy old fart and will throw the bearing at you :D

I thought I would update this thread.

My truck uses a 1 9/16's carrier bearing. Not a 1 3/8's. I found this out today. The only place that was open that wants you think they are a parts store showed a 1 1/4's as the correct one for my truck. :-laf

I am glad I have a lightly used spare axle to pull me around for the next day or so. :-laf :-laf

Bill NAPA went with a new supplier for the strap kits. These are a lot heavier than the other tin plate junkers they used to sell. I'll let you know how they fit.

I'll post part numbers when I get everything back together.

Ok, so I guess I am lucky to have a shop here is W. Sacramtento. Just as an aside, I had new u-joints put in my rear driveshaft and had it re-balanced the other day for $75. My forward joint was binding, and the slip was about 3 splines out of phase. I guess someone had already played with it. :( I did that to try to cure a new shake, but it didn't. oh well.

Just a quick update. If your truck has a 1 9/16's ID carrier bearing. The part number is HB88508. This is a NAPA number. But the other parts stores should be able to cross it out.

The new style NAPA strap kits are not any better than the old kits. So unless you need new bolts pass on the NAPA strap kits.

Wow! Blast from the past!

I just had my bearing disintegrate and am discovering that I have the larger diameter (1. 5748") model. I found one on O'Reilly's webpage.

Pioneer Inc. # 646038. It says it's not available online, check the store. I'll have to do that tomorrow.

I had been hearing a mild tapping noise for a week or so. I don't drive it much anymore so wasn't too concerned about crawling underneath in the rain. I'd had one tear the rubber on my 90 and it made an incredibly loud noise. I was sure it wasn't the bearing.

The pictures prove me wrong... again. #@$%!

You think they would make ones with out being mounted in rubber like the bigger trucks there not mounted in rubber , as it seams to me its the rubber what goes away

... ... ... not mounted in rubber? Which big trucks have you seen that are not in rubber? I havn't seen any that I can remember. It's the ball bearing which galls/spalls and overheats, then seizes. Then, the rubber goes away.

I probally am not exsplaining it correctly but the one i see on trucks seam to be way better built than the ones in our trucks , the ones ive done it seams the bearing pops out of the rubber rather to easily to me .
