I need a piece of clear round glass, 4" in diameter, 1/16" thick. Anyone have any suggestions on where I might get something like that? I've already tried McMaster-Carr, Smallparts, and Cole-Parmer.
I don't know if those are actual glass places but try one. I remember from being younger and breaking windows that my dad had to go to the store and get a custom cut pice for the window.
does it need to be glass? could lexan be used [easy to cut & work with]???
some light fixtures have glass over the bulbs, and i do recall seeing some close to 4" [not sure on thickness]. maybe you might find one at homedepot or some other lighting fixture store? if not, see if you can buy/borrow a glass cutter with circle guide and cut one on your own from a piece of window glass [the newer the glass, the easier it cuts. old window glass sometimes doesn't break very clean from the score line]
see if you have a plastics supply shop near by. you could do some dumpster diving and get what you need for free [i've done that for phenolic pieces]
lexan is good to work with. . standard woodworking tools will cut it easially, 1/16" stuff and lighter can be worked with tin snips [lexan will cut ok, poly stuff will crack with snips]
You might check the replacement flashlight lens section of your local hardware store - and depending upon intended use, the lids commonly used on many bowls might work...
