I need a recipe of oils probubly Amsoil and any additives for a smooth shifting 6 spd transmission. I have 55k on it and think changing the fluid might help anybody got any ideas:confused:

Thanks Jared

I run just Amsoil Series 3000 5w30 HDD oil in my transmission. I have had it in there for almost 90,000 and it shifts great.

I had two (2) 6 speeds go bad on me. The same day they put the 3rd 6 speed in I switched it to Royal Purple Synchromax. Just passed 45k and it's first fluid change (RP synchromax again) and the fluid coming out looks great, didnt see all the brass shavings like in the first two. Aftermarket synthetic lubes are better than OEM.

This transmission just gets smoother all the time. A Fastcooler and PTO filter are nice to have on there too.

I`m glad you guys brought this subject up ,I`ve got about 42,000 miles on mine & it seems to be getting noticebly harder to shift. I`ve been trying to decide on Amsoil,Penzoil,or Royal Purple. How much does it take , I keep the Amsoil in stock at my shop, but was unsure about it in my transmission. What about in the transfercase? Also where can you get the Royal Purple ?

I am currently running Redline MTL in my 6-speed and transfer case. I ran Amsoil 5W-30 HDD for 50,000 miles, but the Redline gives better shifting.

Redline-- probably the best for the 6speed. The RP syncromax is good stuff too. The OEM spec fluid is the biggest reason the 5600 fails, which doesn't happen often.

FYI-- MTL is NOT designed for the t-case-- you should use Redline D4 atf for the t-case.

I am well aware of the fluid spec. for the transfer case. I choose to use MTL in the transfer case because it has much higher levels of ZDDP anti wear agents than any ATF. Have been using MTL for quite a while now. Transfer case is cooler to the touch since the install. No problems.
