I'd like to do a poll on this board to see how well the rebuilt VP-44's are doing as far as failures are concerned - focusing upon rebuilts done within the last 4 years, and stock pumps only, no hotrod pumps.

Supposedly, the more recent rebuilt VP-44's, due to revisions and upgrades, are more bulletproof and less failure prone than the OEM ones and earlier rebuilts - let's see if they really are!

Here's what I need, a list of the most commonly used Bosch certified rebuilders on this board - I already have Industrial Injection and Blue Chip - and I think Shieds does them too?

Anyway, if there are other MAJOR VP-44 rebuilders known to members here in addition to what I've listed above, please provide the names so I can include them in a list for s poll.

Keep in mind this is about the more popular rebuilders whose names are well known on this board - not just every Bosch rebuilder in the nation, after all, if we learn that shop "X" has an unusually high failure rate compared to others, that MIGHT be informative where some little known shop wouldn't be nearly as relevant.

Also keep in mind that some shops are not rebuilders themselves, and install rebuilts they obtain from other sources such as those above - I want ONLY the primary rebuilders themselves.

Thanks.

Gary,

Midwest Fuel Injection is also one of the handfull of Bosch certified rebuilders in the US. All of these certified rebuilders are supposed to upgrade to latest component levels when they rebuild a pump.

I put on a Scheid pump about 4 years ago. It ran 90k miles. Also got 2 mpg better than original pump with more power!

How about those of us with a Dodge warrantee pump?

Not of much value for my intended purpose, unless you KNOW who did the rebuild (it CERTAINLY was not DC or your local dearlership!), and if the latest - within last 4 years - parts were used...

We KNOW the OEM pumps were prone to fail early, and we KNOW earlier rebuilds using the then "latest and greatest" Bosch supplied brass advance cylinder liner revision ALSO failed early - but pumps rebuilt within the last 4 years SHOULD have the (relatively!) latest electronics module and internal mechanical parts - those are the pumps used within the last few years, and the ones we would be buying today if we needed one - and THESE are the ones I want to post a poll on to check failure rates. ;)

one question while all the vp gurus are together here, I have been reading everythign I can about the pumps and what makes a hot rod pump, but my question is what stops anyone from changing parts in the pump to make it a hot rod pump, if you start out wiht the ho pump are the other parts accesable?

You must be a certified Bosch rebuilder to obtain parts - and even after the basic mechanical upgrade is done, a $250,000 test bench is required for proper calibration...

All that sorta tends to discourage guys from doing one out in their back yard... :-laf :-laf

yeah thats fine. I work for Cummins and do a lot with metro fuel injection. just looking for options. if I can buy parts and have metro build it and test it i may end up a little better or at least cheaper for the same thing

YUP - it certainly helps to have an "in" with someone who will help...
