I need help with finding a good cb magnet mount antenna. I live in Michigan and would like to buy it over the counter. Anyone know of a good cb shop in Michigan and antenna?

There are nothing better than Wilson's when it comes to Magnent Mount antenna's.

Ranging from Lil 'Wil, Wilson 500, 1000, & 5000 in sizes. I personally run a 5000, but that's because I run a big CB & a box. A 1000 is sufficent for most setups.

You can also purchase them new on Ebay! ;)

I bought a Brand new in the box 5000 for $50 a couple of months ago from a individual, but that's rare mostly dealers and 1000's go for $70 5000's $100

I run a Wilson 1000, but with a stock Cobra 29ST, so can't really reply on how good the antenna is. I took it down to get my truck in the garage one night (well actually it took itself down because I forgot about it). The garage entrance is like 8" above the cab roof. It took the antenna down, and no damage was done. That's tough, "right there". Since then I have the base magneted onto the front of the bed, and the mast is sitting on my rear seat. Don't have a lot of CB usage around these parts. :)

I used a wilson 5000 and love it

with my galaxy 95t

rci 2970

galaxy 99v

uniden pc 78 xl

and a texas star dx 500v

go with wilson or a 102" whip have fun

thanks vaughn

another vote for the Wilson. I have used them for years with no problems, their magnets are great. You should be able to pick one up at most truck stops.

good luck

Wilson for sure! I LOVE my 5000 and it's fairly easy to tune. A SWR meter helps too. I choose it over the K-40 since I had a few power problems with it. I could wear bigger "boots" with the Wilson vs the K-40. The k-40 is a good antenna and I used them for years while in Hawaii, but for plain good old fashioned kick butt power and ease, the Wilson is the way to go.

I also run a Wilson 5000. Over kill for me I know but it works great. Before that I ran a Wilson 500. Check out Copper Electronics, they have pretty good prices and I have bought stuff from them a number of times including this Wilson 5000.

Another vote for the Wilson. I have the 5000 Magnet mount, and it's great. It's overkill like someone else mentioned, but I plan on getting an bigger radio in the future. I got mine at 12 Volt. They only sell what they believe works best. Great guys to work with, and they make killer Coax.

when i ran a mag mount antenna i used a wilson 5000..... good antenna. ive since switched over to a 102" steel whip... . wilson gets my vote on mag mount antennas

Chaz, You can,t go wrong with a K40 or a Wilson.

Don,t sit it down were you might pick up some metal,That magnet is

strong and likes to slam down when you sit on.

A buddy of mine put one on his roof and took it off ayear later and

he had a big ball of rust on the roof.

I put a piece of thick plastic down under the base of the antenna. I'm hoping it keeps the roof from getting damaged. I got the plastic from a bag of dog treats. It's very flexible, and a little tacky, and fairly thick. Hard to describe.

According to Dave at 12 Volt, Magnetic mounts antennas don't use the vehicle chassis as a ground. You can't get a good contact through the paint, etc. The mag mounts have their own ground plane (not sure exactly what this means) and don't need a vehicle ground. Maybe someone else can chime in and explain better.

I've got the lowest SWR I've ever had with the Wilson 5000. It's right around 1. 0.
