I am in the process of installing a remote start/alarm system in my truck and need to know what wires coming from the ignition switch do what...

Thanks in advance, CJ

Thanks for the reply Ron, but now I need to know what wire is for the tach???

I got out my test light and found all of the ignition wires, I also managed to find the WTS feed wire but need the tach wire to finish my install.

I wish I had my manuals here at my office. "I guess I'll have to start carrying them around, ha, ha,". Anyway, I live about 25 miles from my office, so I'll look tonight and let you know if someone hasn't already.

Diesels dont use a standard pulse tach wire. If you tap the tach, you may put an undue load on the ECM and fry something. You have to have an alarm that is diesel-compatible, and use an alternator charging sense input. You can tap a wire from the PDC fuse box next to the drivers battery, if your alarm supports that. If you do a remote start, make sure it is capable of cranking for 2-3 seconds, a lot of gasser alarms only crank for 1-2 seconds...

good luck

Finished my install! :D I got the THIS (I was going to link to the Audiovox site, but, it is currently down) unit... .

Car Toys, wants 399. 97 for THIS unit! I gave $130. 00 for it on Ebay  .

This unit has left a great first impression on me, as the ONLY thing it lacks is a turbo cool down timer.

I think my truck now knows more tricks than my dog! :-laf

So did you tap the tach line or use the alt sense line?

Glad to hear u got it workin. . I put a used alarm in mine a while back, damn thing had a mind of its own. It got -ripped- out the second time it locked me out with the motor running. friggin thing.....

I'm glad you got it working also. I've searched the manual and the only thing I found concerning the tach is that the crankshaft position sensor sends a signal to the powertrain control module that sends that signal to the instrument cluster. But that is not much help. Anyway, the main thing is that you got it to work.
