Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) I need some help figuring out an Edge Comp problem.

I was having problems with my comp drag box 2 months ago (the module would work about half the time). I sent it to Edge to have them check it out. The rep told me to send in my wiring harness for a checking also. So they sent a new wiring harness and updated my module, so I installed the new harness and plugged in my comp box. Now the module seems to fuel it well at low rpm but as soon as rpm's get around 2,000 the module seems to back the fueling off. I am only seeing 28lbs of boost and 850 egts!! I have good fuel psi and all my intercooler hoses are fine.



So I send the module back to Edge and they send me a NEW module and wiring harness. So I install them both thinking I will have this fixed.



My truck acts the same way. It will smoke at low rpm and about the time the truck should really start to pull hard it seems return to stock fueling levels. 28lbs of boost max and 850 egts. It doesnt matter would stage the box is on same boost and egts.



Now before when my Comp Drag module was working good I would see 38lbs of boost and 1500+ egts in 4th gear.



So a long story short I have been through 2 wiring harnesses and 2 modules with the exact same results.

I have check voltages at my harness end and every connection is rock solid for I have checked these countless times.



My smarty on levels 8 and 9 fuels it harder above 2,000 rpm then my module on stage 5.



I am getting no codes and besides the truck not fueling hard is running fine.



ANY IDEAS???

What is the fuel pressure when this happens? Possibly the fuel filter needs to be changed & you are running dry when it calls for more fuel. I had a problem similar to this & it turned out to be the ground for the comp... . The air horn wasn't giving a good ground. I ran a wire from my battery ground to the air horn & problem solved. It just sounds like you are having other problems to me. Try running the comp only with no smarty & see if it is any better. Just trying to help figure it out... Hope this helps.

Fuel pressure is not dropping like it did with a good comp box. My truck is flat out not fueling like it should.



I have ran my truck with and without the smarty. It doesnt matter what I have the smarty the comp fuels the same.



You bring up a good point, I bought the smarty in between Edge fixing my module.



I wonder if there is a way the smarty programming sent my truck in to a defuel mode??

I can hit 28lbs of boost though. .

I have a simalar problem. Mine will do exactly the same defueling that you describe. I unhook my tapped pump wire for a day or so then plug it back in and I have ALL my truck back! Then after a few days driving on 5X5 it starts to defuel and even surge a bit. It seems like mine is just a matter of a poor tapped pump wire. I plan to solder mine when I get back to it.



I have yet to figure it out, but it's got to be something stupid! I just had back surgery so I can't mess with it too much as of yet.

I sometimes have a problem with my comp when it is cold out. I go to turn it on & nothing... no light or anything. I unplug the power in fuse box & plug it back in & it works fine. I think that I would check the connection on the pump. Maybe the wire needs soldered or it may be corroded. Maybe unhook the batteries overnight & try to reset the system. Just some ideas.

You make some good points.....

I rewired my wire to the pump, it was soldered but it had some corrison so spliced it again.

I am beginning to think my pump is getting weak.

My smarty sure works good though.

Have you checked for codes? The pump could be getting weak, but I never think the worst first... . unless it is my truck. Have you checked the ground on the air horn? I would definately run a wire from the bat. to the air horn, because guys in the past have overlooked this & it turned out to be the ground.
