I need some incite on a P0192 code

2005 dodge cummins 5.9, 300k miles

It has been hard starting for a while now, and now no start inThe morning. And yesterday, while idling, cel. Came on. It started to run choppy, and when i hit the accelerator it would surge and remain at the higher rpm and fade down. The error code of P0192. Replaced the fuel filter...no change.When it starts it runs fine...or so I think....no smoke.

With the amount of mile I'm sure it needs injectors. Just want to make sure in going in the right direction.

Attack the code first.
It's an electrical problem.

You know...funny you should say that...

I had to do service call(hvac). So I got it started and and it seem to run fine. Half way to town it started acting up again...coughing and carrying on and cel. Came on. Not 20 minutes later...check gauge light came on , and no alternator. So I'm in the parking lot of auto zone changing out an alt. I'm unhooking the alt wire from the battery and notice a wiring block next to the passenger side battery and the keeper nut for the 2 wires is loose (it had been arching for awhile bc the rubber cover was a little melted) so I tighten that nut replaced the alt. So far I haven't had a starting issue yet today. Am I reaching here, or is this just a coincidence?
