Ok, my friend/partner (a big ford guy) just bought a brand new F250 4x4 crew cab. He's got the 6. 0 and auto and he is getting 19mpg highway and th truck hasn't even been broken in yet! My 2500 4x4 gets 21. 6 with an EZ, but I usually travel with this guy with the 3500 and want to be getting better milage than him. Right now I am getting 16ish and want to be doing much better. I am trying to sell my gear vendor so I can have extra money for bombs. Lead me in the right direction guys! Is it going to be possible to get 20mpg with a 4x4 3500 with 3. 55s? I also want the truck to be I know stronger than his. He tows a 30' inclosed trailer filled with tools and I tow the skid steer about 10,000lbs. Our trips are all highway. The only bombs now are 4" exhaust, Powermax 3, and a k&N. Truck is a 6spd. Any advice would be great. Besides, you dont want me getting beat by a FURD do you?

He'll be riding with you in yours when his goes into the shop for all the 6. 0 problems. I wouldn't sweat a thing.

That gear vendor probably isn't doing your mileage any good if you have the rpm's too low. I get my best mileage when I'm turning 1900 - 2000 rpms.

Yea that's why I am trying to sell the gear vendor. I'm sure it will fit someone else's needs better than mine. I figure that money can go to some other good use in bombs. woohoo! Which injectors and should I keep the powermax 3 or get an EZ like I have in the other truck? Suggestions please!

6.0?

Just make sure he has your:

Home Phone Number

Your Girl Friends Home phone Number

Your work phone number

Your cell phone number &

Your pager number so he can call for a ride

when the ford breaks!

In fact, why don't you type them out on a little wallet card and with a smile hand it to him!

Life can be so much fun!!!!!!!!!

the 6. 0 liters are really that bad? Like all of them? I know I told him to avoid them and get a 7. 3 (I tried for a cummins but he is too into fords) but I guess he'll find out the hard way. Is there anyone out there with good luck with the new Navistar?

6.0 times the headaches

Sageair a TDR member has one for a work truck. He has written 3 test reports so far. Hopefully he give us a 4th. Search under 6. 0 PSD Test Report. It might give ya some ideas.

Injectors

The EZ is nice and good for low end performance. If you want to drag race the Ford, then you better get some stage III injectors in that engine. Your pushing the stock transmission BTW.

I was thinkin an EZ and 275 injectors. I am doing these bombs to the six speed. I hope you dont mean I am pushing that. Will I need a clutch?

I'm running 275's and EZ with 3. 5 gears. While running 315/75/16 tires it would slip 5th and 6th gear when getting on it. I am running the 265/75/16 and so far I know it slips 6th, did it tonight but 5th seems to be ok. I plan to upgrade the clutch, I'm just trying to delay the inevitable.

What do you want to do? Out run him, out pull him, or out leg him?

You can do all of the above by putting the EZ and the injectors (stage one or twos) with the TST on the 3500, and drive smart.

You have more fuel capacity than him so out legging him is easy.

You want to out pull him up a hill, how much do you love your engine (EGT's)?

Mileage, if his numbers are legitimate and hand figured, he's got ya. You have an aerodynamic issue that he does'nt. Have no fear, chances are his mileage will drop like a rock, but he will be making OIL - "Darn, my oil level is a quart high again... "

Ask him to check back with you when you both have 125k miles and he is doing a rebuild while you are changing your oil. Check again at 250k while he is financing another rebuild, and you are thinking of having your valves adjusted. Again at 375k while you are having a compression test done to see if yours needs a rebuild, and he is wondering why his $45k truck has cost him near $100k, and has been in the shop more times than he can remember.

I need to sell the gear vendor before anything, but would like to add an EZ and 275s. I want to outpull him and out leg him. Drag racing doesn't matter to me too much. I have a 6 speed so it takes a little longer rowing through all the gears. What clutch should I go with?

I have the 275's and a EZ Comp with a BHAF filter. My mileage towing 7000 lbs at 65 mph is 18. 5. Unloaded if I keep my foot out of it on a long trip at 65 mph I will pull 22 to 22. 5. If I step up to 70/75 my mpg goes to 18. 8. I have managed to pull 24 mpg on flat and level ground over a 200 mile run at 60 mph. As far as pulling power goes, I just squashed a Furd 350 this last week end going up a 6% grade. He was unloaded with 4 people inside. I had a friend and my Big Tex car trailer at 1,800 lbs with a 1976 Camaro loaded up at what ever it weighs. I was in level 2 on the EZ. When I went to pass him, he decided to step on it. I don't think he was too happy when I down shifted to 5th and just pulled away from him. I've got 98,500 on my rig. Clutch, lift-pump and exhaust are stock. No Chubby or Furd has out run me yet on a hill. Thats not saying they won't, I just have not run into one yet. :D :D

I would not worry too much. Your already miles ahead of your friend with the Furd. :D ;) :D

I now have 11,000 miles on my 6. 0 on my 6. 0 PSD work truck. It has proven to be reliable enough. THere are a couple of issues like rough idle and NO power below 1,800 r. pm. I have to start out in first gear every time. After 2,000 rpm it is very quick and quiet. Mileage hovers around 17 mpg at 75 mph steady. I just got back from towing six horses with my bone stock 01 H/O 4x4 and I can tell you I wouldnt trade my CTD for ANY truck even a brand new CTD because I just love my truck. On the other hand I believe when Ford gets their act together and deals with the problems they are having they will have a good product. MY son just bought a 6. 0 with the torqueshift transmission and it is very quick.
