Just got back from a friends house putting on the cab clearance lights. It looks so much better. Can't wait till it gets dark. Special thanks to fellow TDR member 243.

just the lights right no visor?? Was it an easy install. I don't have them but always wanted them. Was wondering how hard it would be. I would think the hardest part would be the alignment.

I agree, those clearance lights look real good, check your email Okie.

Groundpounder, it's a tossup between balancing my fat butt on the hood to drill the holes for the three center lights and wiring the hot wire. We ended up tapping the black/yellow wire under the dash like Evan did which is much easier than getting to the blasted connection on the back of the fuse block. The directions said to plug the wire in hole #14 if the truck has the overhead console; however, the hole is already filled with another wire.

Thanks alot Daimler Chrysler!

groundpounder.

There are references on the board where the visor wasn't recomended . . something about the vibration and metal fatigue?? . . search the board though.

I put the lights on myself too . . the allignment is a piece of cake! A template is supplied . . real clear instructions.

Like 243 said . . those center lights are a bitc_ to drill. Balancing act is an understatement! Clearly that was the hardest part of the job.

If for some resion I had to do another . . I'd do a scaffolding setup over the hood. Drive the truck under it.

I have a ST, so I didn't have the overhead console . . the connector plugged right it . . I used an aux relay to prevent any overloading. Works great . . zero problems. My photos show a before and after.

2 hour job.

I think it's a big improvement. Good job.

Did you specify which kit you wanted? Those look to be the older style of clearance lights. Did you like those better than the new style? I thought I'd post your after pick for ya.

Looks good Okie, but is there a story you need to tell about that other vehicle with the lights parked behind you. #ad

Y2K Red Stealth Sport 2500 4X4 QC SLT+, 5-spd, 3. 54 anti-spin, 265-75-16 LTX’s (There ain’t no such thing as options, cause ya gotta have it all, including: DC’s dead cow/vinyl interior and don’t stop anti-lock brakes. ) Stock, but not for long. Oops, too late. What silencer ring? (More fun than my 98 SST)

Guys, I hate to tell this but although that is a good looking rig it is not mine. When I ordered the kit those are the kind of lights I do have. Looks just like the ones on the dually at the dealership here in town. I likem. Okie-Go

rkohn;

That's my truck . . Wowzy posted the photo to show the older style lights. The New Orleans police car in the background is my neighbors . . he's one of the elite!

wowzy . . I clearly stated I had a 2000 model year truck . . and those were the lights sent. I was so anxcious to get them on . . it didn't dawn on me it was the older style, until I saw the newer ones.

As for as like or not like . . It depends on my mood. During the day, off, from a few feet back the older style looks better. At night they are more visable. I don't dislike them . . but it kinda "dates" my truck. I've been told " looks good for a 98" . . so in that aspect I'd prefer the newer style, but definately don't fret over it.

And for those looking to "upgrade" to the new style . . it won't. The bolt pattern is correct, the wire hole is in the correct location . . but the wire hole is too small.

The lamp holder extends too far (not flush with the roof). It appears the new style kit requires a larger "wire hole" to accomidate the socket into the roof. That would have to be a fairly large 3rd hole. I don't have the dimensions . . but it looks like it would need a 3/4" wire hole to accomidate the socket. Maybe I have the wrong socket . . more investigation needs to be done. But what is sure . . the new lense won't screw down to the roof . . the socket prevents it from mounting flush.

I'll experiment with shorter sockets to see if I can get it to work . . but in the meantime I'll keep what I have. If I find a solution I will clearly post the proceedure / parts.

Lesson learned . . CLEARLY State you want the new "low profile" light kit. Maybe even mention its for a 2001 truck just to be sure.

Yeah I wouldn't fret over it either since it took me almost a year to realize that mine were different from a co-workers '94 3500.

Your neighbor is a cop, Wowzy? That's only one step above having your mother-in-law living next door. #ad
Hope you invite him to your parties and all-night B. O. M. B. sessions.
