Hi all, Happy Thanksgiving. I have not been on here in awhile and god has punished me for this by making me accidently put 6 gallons of 93 octane gas in my 01' ISB Ram.

I immediatley stopped (and screamed profanities) and then filled the tank the rest of the way with Diesel fuel and Amsoil fuel conditioner. I then drove the 2 miles back home with out any problems. WHAT DO I DO NOW? Is 6 gallons of gasoline mixed with 28 gallons of diesel fuel something to worry about?. I really dont have the ability to drain my tank where i am and I have to drive 25 miles to work in about 9 hours. Please tell me i dont have to worry and it will not hurt anything or cause my truck to stall or anything else.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't really want to admit it, but i've put about 75% gas in my tank. The truck ran rough for a while, but I saw no permament damage.

Bosch stated at the TDR Nationals to run no more than 5% biodiesel with the VP44. Your at about 20% gas to diesel. If it were me there's no way I'd run the truck. I'd drain out every bit you can. Hook up that pusher pump that you have disconnected and run jumper wires from your battery. Use it to pump out your tank. Warning - when I pumped out my tank with my pusher pump there were about 8 gallons left in it when the fuel started foaming. If it were me I'd get as much out as I could with the pusher pump, then drop the tank and get the rest out. Drain the fuel filter, change it, refill with diesel and fuel treatment. JMHO - not worth taking a chance on doing damage to your VP44 (any more than you may already have).

I accidentally mixed gasoline with my diesel. What can I do?

One percent or less gasoline will lower the flash point of a gasoline/diesel fuel blend below the specification minimum for diesel fuel. This will not affect the fuel's engine performance, but it will make the fuel more hazardous to handle. Larger amounts of gasoline will lower the viscosity and/or cetane number of the blend below the specification minimums for diesel fuel. These changes can degrade combustion and increase wear.

The best course of action is to recycle gasoline-contaminated diesel fuel back to your supplier. People ask if they can correct the problem by adding more diesel fuel to the blend. Usually the answer is no; the amount of additional diesel fuel needed to bring the flash point on test is impractically large. Those who try dilution should have the blend checked by a laboratory before use to be sure it meets specifications.

Here is a link to a 2002 Bosch bulletin with wear pictures and warnings of "distributor type" pump damage. Contaminations mentioned include gasoline, alcohol, biodiesel, jet fuel, water and grit. The pictures and text are five pages long and take mucho time to download if you are dial up connected. Larry

I mixed Gasoline with my diesel

I was at a Flying J. They had a pump to pump out my tank. We had to diconnect the fill line from the tank to get all the fuel out of the tank. I never run my truck until all the fuel was out. Its been running great so far.

Get a ride to work , Rent a open truck and get a bunch of fuel containers or get a 55 gal tank or get a transfer tank at tractor supply small one and after work pump out the fuel with the pusher pump you have by using a rubber fuel line from your local parts store , and connected to your battery . Get rid of the contaminated fuel when you have time and place ,be careful with it as it has a low flash point now . You could thin it out or use for part cleaning or pay $ to dispose . You will have a inspiration with time . Cheaper to rent a truck and buy what you need than going through the thought some thing will go out any time LOL Ron In Louisville KY . P. S could be some TDR member in you area could help you out. Oo. Oo. Oo. :D

Thank you all for your quick replies. My plan as of now is tommorow morning i am going to siphon out all i can into 5 gallon oil pails which will then be disposed of at work in the fuel tank of a locomotive. I figure 6 gallons of gasoline into 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel should not be a problem.

I am then going to put in 10 gallons of diesel from 2 fuel containers into my truck, change the fuel filter, then drive to the station, fill it with diesel (Yes, i will double check this time!) and add some fuel conditioner and i HOPING all will be well.

Sound ok????????????

Sounds like you have a good plan. Stanadyne makes a conditioner for such problems. It is called Stanadynes Lubricity Formula. It may be hard to find though. Do not use additives that contain alcohol, that would only contribute to the problem. I heard of a guy that put gas in his fuel once, he melted his pistons. I don't think he took the precautions that you are though. I only mentioned that because I wanted to let you know that your pump is not the only issue. Heat in the upper cylinders would be a concern also. I would take it easy for a while and when you feel like you have pretty well cleaned out your fuel system it might be wise to change your oil as well.

Good Luck

Stanadynes claim is:

Ideal for blended fuels - using No. 1 diesel or kerosene dramatically reduces the lubricating ability of regular No. 2 diesel fuel. Lubricity Formula restores this essential property, to help protect your engine and reduce extensive down time.

Gas will destroy your injector pump. No amount of conditioner will change that fact.

If you have any doubts as to what I'm telling you, (please) call any place that rebuilds injector pumps.

Good luck!

I know a lady who filled up here diesel Mercedes with gasoline and drove about 25 miles till it stopped. She then had to buy a new motor. dont drive it!!

I also know a guy who put diesel in his 318 gas Ram pu. Same result a blown engine.

Never heard of gas "blowing" a diesel engine nor diesel blowing a gasser. Gasoline in a diesel usually only takes out the injection pump from lack of lubrication. The lower the percentage of gas mixed with diesel is actually worse because the engine will continue to run longer, once you get over 50% it just won't run. On a gasser the same is true except that it will smoke worse as the concentration increases till it gets to the point where it won't run. The only damage to a gasser running on diesel is a plugged up catalytic converter.

blowin diesels

I have not heard of a cummins melting down, but I have seen plenty of 6. 2L GMs melt down from running gasoline. Running gas would get you detonation, pre-ignition, and/or high chamber temps, which none is very healthy for the engine. The cummins should have enough beef to survive that abuse, but I doubt all the others will. The upper pistons rings won't survive long either.

The gal with th Mercedes drove it till it stopped. It was towed to the dealer. The dealer condemed the motor and replaced it.

The guy with the Gas Ram realized his mistake but peer pressure told him to run and keep topping off with gas. It ran crappy over heated and blew the head gaskets. The gaskets were replaced, fuel system flushed and back on the road. Soon he had poor power oil in the water water in the oil etc. The company that fueled it with diesel in the first place desided to replace the engine. I dont know what the autopsy report was.
