I posted this in "Truck 911" also, i need advice, fast.

Hi all, Happy Thanksgiving. I have not been on here in awhile and god has punished me for this by making me accidently put 6 gallons of 93 octane gas in my 01' ISB Ram.

I immediatley stopped (and screamed profanities) and then filled the tank the rest of the way with Diesel fuel and Amsoil fuel conditioner. I then drove the 2 miles back home with out any problems. WHAT DO I DO NOW? Is 6 gallons of gasoline mixed with 28 gallons of diesel fuel something to worry about?. I really dont have the ability to drain my tank where i am and I have to drive 25 miles to work in about 9 hours. Please tell me i dont have to worry and it will not hurt anything or cause my truck to stall or anything else.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear this!! I would definitely keep it loaded up on fuel conditioner for lubrication purposes. Six gallons is a pretty small percent of the total volume so I don't think anything is going to get hurt, except your pride. :p

Like a lot of folks here I always use the "sniff test" to make sure I have the right nozzle. :D

Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!:D

Bosch stated at the TDR Nationals to run no more than 5% biodiesel with the VP44. Your at about 20% gas to diesel. If it were me there's no way I'd run the truck. I'd drain out every bit you can. Hook up that pusher pump that you have disconnected and run jumper wires from your battery. Use it to pump out your tank. Warning - when I pumped out my tank with my pusher pump there were about 8 gallons left in it when the fuel started foaming. If it were me I'd get as much out as I could with the pusher pump, then drop the tank and get the rest out. Drain the fuel filter, change it, refill with diesel and fuel treatment. JMHO - not worth taking a chance on doing damage to your VP44 (any more than you may already have).

I myself would run it. First I would dump in a quart or two of motor oil or even 2-cycle pre mix oil. Lube of the injector pump is the only major concern and if 2-cycle oil can lube the conecting rod bearings as well as the piston to sleve surfaces on a two stroke motor for hundreds of hour at high RPM's, I am fairly confident It will provide enough lubrication for the injector pump. Draining it is such a mess, and then what do you do with 30 gal of contaminated fuel? Just mt 2 cents.

Not sure but would there be any problems with potential burn valves, etc??? Or is the percentage of gas to diesel in this case too small for a concern like this?

Run it.

I'd run it, but keep the receipts for the fuel. Your comprehensive insurance covers such accidents.

I concur with MD500 just add some 2-cycle oil and drive it. You should be alright, and if not, you should have insurance coverage.

Best of luck, I'm sure it won't happen again.

If you did not blown the head off on the drive home you sould be all right. Add the extra lube like some other people has stated. As soon as the gage moves off of full. Top it off agin. Keep topping it off for a week or so. Every time you see the gage move down top it.

I didn't think I would ever put gas in my Cummins but I did, 6 gallons like you. I topped it off and finished my drive from Houston to College Station. Ironically, I got the highest mileage to date at 23. 8 mpg but I was also driving 55 mph.

My wife filled her 2001 up with a green handle unleaded pump at moble. She made it almost out of the parking lot before it stoped. I pulled it home with my 97. Then pumped all the fuel out with the pusher. Put in 10 gallons of diesel. It is all I had for cans. All the others where full of gas/diesel. Dranded the filter. Primed it up. losened 3 lines to prime 3 cylinders. It stated up ran fine. I then drove it to a station and toped it off and added a quart of 2 cycle oil to the tank. Has been fine eversince.

Yep, been there too! I put about 12 gallons of gasoline in my '92 when it was almost new. Yea, I know it is a different pump. I drained out what I could and added a couple of quarts of cheap motor oil and ran it.

Since then I have been out in the mountains of Mexico several times when the fuel got low enough that I was concerned about getting back to a gas station. I have come in on gasoline mixed with motor oil and even cooking oil! The poor old truck just keeps running.

The only thing I would add to the advise of the others is to avoid working it hard with gasoline in the tank. It could make for some high exhaust temps!

I'd drain it. I was at the pumps a few months ago and a nice couple in a new Mercedes Diesel pulled in and the guy put about 5 gallons of unleaded into the tank before he noticed. He was savvy about diesels, but well dressed, and asked me to help him. I helped push the Merc, (He wouldn't even try to drive it forward) up into the shade beside the gas station, we got a couple of 5-gallon plastic pails and a hose and syphoned every drop we could get out of the tank. Then he re-filled it with #2.

What happened to the 2 buckets of mixed gas/diesel? We gave them to the attendant and watched as he lifted the lids on the underground storage tanks and poured every last drop into the unleaded storage tank!

I'd run it...

I'd run it, and top it off about ever 30 miles or so, and keep adding something like stanadyne to keep the injection pump lubed. Every time you add #2 diesel (or #1) you'll be diluting the gas, which is good. I don't think you'll have any problem unless you didn't add an additive for lubrication. JMHO.

I'd drain it, It is not worth the risk to the injectors. They are probably the first thing to be damaged then the head gasket.

If you choose to drive it keep the boost and EGT down.

You are also risking some damage to the injection pump.

Well, i siphoned out the tank down to almost the "E" mark on the gauge, then added a can of Amsoil fuel conditioner and filled it up with diesel. I have only driven about 10 miles so far but everything seems fine. Since i had no 55 Gallon drums lying around, i drained the fuel into a 40 gallon plastic garbage can. We lifted it into a friend truck, drove to the railroad yard and using a large funnel, drained it into a locomotive. No mess either. In all, it SEEMS to have a happy ending, ill know soon anough i guess.

Thank you all once again for your advice. I REALLY appreciate it.

MD500E,

Since you are willing to put just about anything in your fuel tank why not try a snickers bar (tm) and a Coca-Cola (tm) and see what that does :D
