I know alot of peeps out there dont like K&N, but I recharged mine yesterday and did the white glove test and not any dust at all. Also I put my stock filter back in over night to let my filter dry and i cant beleave the difference. It feels like my truck is starving for air with the stock filter in. Turbo whine is much quieter too (yuck). Wow i think i will look at more ways to get more air. I was told by a little birdie More Air + More Fuel = MO POWER! #ad

I'm with you I don't find any dirt behind mine either and I love it.

I like mine also,no dust getting by and the filter minder no longer moves, with the stock filter it was 3/4 of the way up every time I checked it.

I have heard many conflicting reports on the K&N. My Dad has a 1999 ETC automatic and uses the stock filter. I helped him change the oil last week and when we had the boot between the air box and the turbo off I noticed the same black deposits in the turbine blades that are on my turbo. My ETH and Dads ETC have the same milage. I use a K&N filter. My Dad also has a 1990 12 valver with 300k miles. He uses the OEM filter on it and guess what? same result. The verdict is that K&N filters do just as good a job removing dirt as the OEM filter does. Just be careful not to over oil the element when you service it.

I had problems with the K&N oil making my Boost sensor not work. I am running around 45 psi of boost and the oil seems to cause the sensor to fail. If all you want is to hear the turbo then leave the stock filter in and just take out the silencer ring.

My ring is out, and no I didnt want it just for the whine. But if it makes whine louder and quiker that tells me im getting alot more air and thats what i want~~~~~MO POWA!

In the last isue of the TDR #30 Page 93 there is an article about the K&N, seems the filter media is to porous, giving it a higer air flow, this sounds good but commins said K&N does not meet there standard for particle size, nor does it meet the standard for dirt holding capacity. Guess I won't be buying one after all.

Better be carefull. Just took my 98 12v in for a new block, head, and turbo. We have been extremelly dry all sunner and the dust went right around my K&N. 66kmiles LOL

I really like my K&N (RE-0880) I have had it on now for better than 20K (ran and OE K&N for 40K before it). My turbo blades are soptless and I have done three oil anal. and the silicon levels have been 2, 3, 4. The 4 came with 10K on the oil.

6 hundredth post COOL

It is my understanding that Cummings performed a study on several after market filters but did not publish their findings. Hmmm, I wonder why. #ad

Then somehow managed to leak out negative information on all the filters they studied. Hmmm, this is very peculiar #ad

we run the kn filter on all of our trucks gmc chevy dodge ford and have never had any problems. but we only only do highways, no off roading or farm miles. if you run the truck in "extreme" conditions stay stock and cover your... .

Does the K & N grease go on the top, bottom or both sides of the replacement filter lip?

I just put it on the bottm lip to seal it from dust getting in. I guess a bit on the sides wouldnt hurt, but dont really need it.

My last oil analysis stated "the silicon at 15 ppm may show the need to check air filtration. " (Universal average = 9 per Blackstone) At 5721 miles on oil, 16845 on engine, Si was 10 with Psychotty + K&N RE-880. About that time, I removed the Pyschotty and added the foam precleaner. Now, with 12655 on that same oil, and the engine at 23779, Si has risen to 15. I'm still trying to decide whether the foam pre-filter caused Si to increase at a lower rate, or, were both of these readings really just the tail end of my break in period? My iron was also high compared to averages, but, when I searched all the past posts and adjusted for miles on oil and miles on engine I ended up concluding that at 24,000, my engine is still just getting broken in. The real test of the K&N will be this spring when I start driving the dirt roads again! And if both Si and Fe don't continue trending down, then I will go back to a max of 7500 between changes.

Any commwnts on the Amsoil vs. K&N?
I have the K&N out of the old 97, but, I'm a little scared to put it into the 01 after what's been said. #ad
