I Sold The Psd

Well guys I am just a Cummins owner now. We sold the PSD with our 37' Montana. We have opted to go with a 32' Motorhome and see how that goes. This lets the kiddos get up and around. I will be in the market for a CREWCAB from somebody in 03. I need to get back in a 4X4 as well. It was kind of sad to see it go... it was a GREAT truck... . CJ

CJ, sorry to hear that. That was a sweet ride, all but the most bullheaded among us would have been really proud to have driven that PSD around. The motorhome is a great idea for the family and offers a lot that a trailer will not, I hope you guys enjoy it as much.

I will also be looking in 03 for a Crewcab. If Dodge trys to pull the same thing as with the new 1500, I may have to check out the 6. 0 PSD. Forget the max.

On the more upper lines of motorhomes, they have the 8. 3 cummins in them. don't know which brands, but like the holiday rambler and such. Look for a BIG exhaust pipe

The electric lift pumps used on the 99+ PSD is a Bosch pump, and is very reliable. I have only had to replace one. Spendy pump, around $340 from Ford. The 99+ PSD runs at about 55 psi of fuel pressure, and it is regulated on the side of the filter housing. The 94-97 PSD used a mechanical lift pump, and it can become troublesome after about 100K. Cracking fuel hoses are also a problem on the older ones. 94-97 PSD's run about 45-70 psi.

Evan,thats what I thought. From searching on the Ford sight it seems like the lift pump is one of few components on the PSD that has a low failure rate! Any chance of adapting an electronic one [99 up] to our 24 valves?

We purchased a 32' Damon Challenger with one slide. It is built on the GM/WORKHORSE Chassis. It has a 8. 1 liter GM Vortec. It seems to be a very stout powertrain. I really did not want to sell the PSD, but it has not been doing much but haul the trailer around lately. It was paid for and the Montana had no equity since it was only 6 months old. The fuel pump did go out on my PSD when it had less than 500 miles on it. It was buzzing so loud the truck was vibrating. That was the ONLY thing ever repaired or replaced in 83. 7K miles.



I will look at the Cummins first in 03, ONLY if something comes out with 4 REAL doors. I am not towing a trailer around anymore, but the kids are in my vehicle everday and they are not getting any smaller.



My Cummins has synthetics in it now and I recorded the highest mileage with it driving to Harlingen and back last week. 24. 2 mpg at a steady 70-75 mph. We had a 10-15 mph tailwind going down and no wind at all coming back. I drove from Arlington to Harlingen and all the way back to San Antonio. 820 miles on 33. 9 gallons.

It's pleasing to see your enjoying your Cummins powered truck and that terrific mileage. I was a little embarassed when you had some oil leak problems shortly after your purchase. Evidently the repairs went well.

That oil thing sure had me annoyed... I think the initial dealer made it worse by not getting it fixed the first time. I have another problem now. About every fifth time I start the truck I get a metallic sound out of the starter/flywheel. It is getting worse and is going in on Monday. Something isn't aligned right or releasing quite right. It seems to be worse the first time I start the truck in the morning. It is not a NICE sound at all... any ideas?... CJ

CJ, good luck with the MH. I still prefer a P/U and 5th wh, or TT if I ever have to go that way again. I don't need a Toad for sightseeing once I've set up the trailer and the P/U is useful year round. Can't wait to here 8. 1L stories - it must be a brute! Craig

You can be asssured of one thing though, when I

need advice on "power questions and claims" for the

Ford PSD, you are the one I will be asking!!! BTW,

we will be coming your way sometime in early May

in our "diesel pusher" so I will definitely look you up!
