Auto or 6 speed to tow with?

New 24K Reese in my 2006 RAM

I will have to haul it about 1000 mile. The truck will have a 1991 ex cab in the bed of it. You guy think the auto in my 2001 QC will hold up. I am taking it from Bismarck ND to Terre Haute IN. For the most part it will be flat on the way down. Anyone on here ever haul one on a 18 ft car trailer. I am thinking about backing it on so not so many LBS on my truck the cab has to be about 400 to 500 LBS I would think sould be anuf LBS up on the frount of the trailer. Well you guys tell me what you think.

Thanks for any help

That truck will probably barely fit on an 18' trailer. There won't be any room to move it for tongue weight adjustment. I would NOT back it on. That is a sure-fire way to have too little tongue weight and end up in the ditch.

We put my friends 91' reg cab on a 18' carhauler, put it on forwards, you should have no problem pulling it, we pulled it with a 3/4ton big block suburban.

I would tie to the axles. Most of the time it the only sturdy part on a 15 year old truck, and since it leaf sprung f/r it shouldnt sway at all.

pull it on forward. two straps or chains front and two in the rear. if it's close to vertical on the straps, run the front straps back to the rear of the trailer and rear straps to the front. cross them side-to-side if you can.

Again I'll stress, load the truck forward and tie it down as previously stated. In addition when I haul cars, I lay long 2x4's against the wheels length wise and then I set 2x4's on top of the length wise 2x4's up against the wheels front and back, screw then together with 2 3" Deck Mate screws at each intersection (4). I have hauled a lot of cars that way and never had a mishap. My longest haul was my daughters car from Portland, OR to Albuquerque.
