Past issues/Reading

Hey guys. For a couple years now, I have been paying to renew my subscription, ONLY to access the web forum. The magazines sad to say go straight (still in plastic even) into the recycle bin. . I dont have time or interest really in reading them. I'd like to suggest that if it can't be free, please come up with a lower subscription rate for just the web forum. I'm assuming I'm not the only one either. I suggested it to Robin but it seemed to fall on deaf ears. Thanks!

If you don't want to read the TDR quarterlys why not donate them to your local library so someone else can benefit. As a fairly new member, the website is worth the $35 annual fee by itself. The quarterlys are icing on the cake. Luckily, I've had some access to older TDR quarterlys. The indexing of TDR topics has made it easy to look up past articles for use as a resource. I've found both the forum and the magazine to be valuable resources.

I love the quarterlies. They are worth the the $35 annual all by themselves. It's the website that's free :-laf

Not deaf ears ...

I am very sorry if you felt this recommendation fell on deaf ears, LightmanE300. That could not be further from the truth, but I completely understand that it must feel that way since we have not acted on the recommendation.

The website is truly a "free benefit" of belonging to the Turbo Diesel Register membership. I do understand that not everyone has the time to read the magazine, but what a great idea posted by MAleshire (thank you) . . . donate your print magazines to a local technical school, library, diesel mechanic, etc. We could even mail your copy directly to that technical school, library, diesel mechanic, etc. for you.

My perspective? We take great pride in limiting the amount of advertising that TDR members see, and we take great pride in keeping the website (reasonably) free from hecklers and hostility. We could not do those things if it were one of the websites that anyone with an email address (or two or three or twelve) could participate in without regard to the membership as a whole. The membership here works to help each other. The moderators moderate with an even hand (and we truly are sorry when we get it wrong). The writers try to jump in and help out when they have the expertise. Heck, TDR Advertisers are great about offering assistance and support when a TDR Member needs help.

We continue to look for ways to meet all of your needs. And just because we can't offer an immediate fix, please don't assume we've trashed your concern. Sometimes it just takes us a while to come up with a fix to a specific suggestion or concern that is effective and that has a positive effect on the total TDR group.

Thank you ALL for your support and for the ideas you do offer up.

Oh well thanks for the comment robin. To the others, I have no time to read the quarterly, let alone visit a library and drop it off. I guess I'll just let my subscription run out, as the bottom line is again - despite the fact others enjoy the quarterly which is great - the forum itself which is my only use is not worth $35 when DTR is free. I love tdr but I guess adios amigos!

Sometimes it's easy to say goodbye to someone that just doesn't get it.

It isn't worth the effort to try to explain something to those who are looking for the cheap lane thru life.

The forum alone is worth the $35. For those that don't read the hard copy, it might be nice if they could just opt out of it, if for no other reason than to save TDR the production and postage costs. If TDR wants to vary the subscription rate accordingly, that's an option. This is what the Wall St Journal does for web access and/or paper delivery. I take both, but sometimes don't get to the paper for 3 or 4 days, so I'm weighing a web only access. TDR can look at that feasibility and see what works for them. Personally, for a quarterly, I think it's just fine how it is.

As far as diesel web sites go, nothing comes close to this one.

Good Feedback

sarj, we are looking at a couple of alternaties that may allow us to offer different types of memberships. We're tested digital delivery of the magazine, web-only memberships, etc. I hope to be able to offer options this year. But we are very careful before we add something because it is better to delay adding a benefit until you're sure it will work than adding one and having to take away because you didn't evaluate it carefully enough in the beginning.

LightmanE300, until options are available, we would gladly ship your magazine (or anyone else in the same position) directly to the library, etc. so that you would not have to drop it off. Just think about it. And hopefully we'll have some options available before your subscription expires.

But whatever you decide, we do wish you the very best.

I like the idea of shipping to schools as I would have loved to have been exposed to diesel back then! It is also a way to recruit newbies before they make foolish mistakes! (like buying a ford!) LOL!
