That sounds like fun, and I could use a vacation (I'd love to see the west ... thinking of moving to Wyoming some time), but one thing ... I wasn't born with feathers on my arms. I am one of those people who does not step in those winged infirnal contraptions. Last time I was on a plane was in '72 when I was 7 years old and had no choice. I'll never do that again.

Then take a train, but it'll cost you more $$. I love train rides.

Trains are cool. We'll see, if the Mass dealer won't deal I will look into a new '08 at my Exeter NH dealer whom I bought my current truck from, then look at Dave Smith and see what deals can be had.

On another note, when I try to build a truck on the Dodge or Chrome Book site and select the "PTO Prep Option" you are asked to select the Automatic trans option. Yet on some truck window stickers with manaul transmissions I see a line item for the "PTO Prep" option. It is confusing. I was under the impression that the G56 could have a PTO put on either side with no trouble.

Does anyone know what the "PTO Prep" Option is? I want to make sure it is part of the deal I try to make if it is an option for manuals as well as automatics.

I'm not familiar with pricing PTO Prep Option since I haven't priced out a truck lately, however try Kelley Blue Book for pricing out a new truck. NADA.com is another good pricing web site. Good luck.

Well, I am slowly moving closer to that line that separates the 3500 from the 4500.

I contacted Ken Smith Dodge today and they were quick to get back to me.

Wow! they have a great deal on 2008 3500 C&C's which put the old leftover 2007 to shame. I think I am going to go new 2008, but now weighing the 4500 option. I just wish Dodge would do some dealing on the 4500/5500.

With the Fed cutting rates 3/4 point yesterday, I would hope that would translate into some better rates from the auto manufactures next month.

A 4500 would make me feel better hauling 2+ yrds of what ever then with a 3500.

I'm expecting #'s from a local dealer by Friday.

Sounds like your on the right track. I like that competition between dealers. I was going to order my 05 from Dave Smith. I told my dealer in Albuquerque, Melloy Dodge, that I was going with Dave Smith. Soon after I got a phone call from them saying that they will match Dave Smith's price. I ordered it from Melloy Dodge and have never been sorry.

As far as the 3500/4500 get whichever works best for you. When I haul anything big and or heavy, I haul it in my 7000# tandem axel trailer. I've been thinking about a dump trailer.

Good luck in your wheeling and dealing. :)

Well a Pete 335 would work best for me ;), but the $85,000 price is a little steep.

I do have a tandem axle trailer which is great, until you have to back it up in tight spots. One of the reason I want a dump body so I can sell my old dump trailer ... though the trailer is nice in that you can just leave it somewhere to be filled up (e. g cutting/splitting 2 cords of wood) and still drive off. The dump trailer will hold a larger volume of material (e. g. 6+ yards of mulch) than any dump body. It has 4 ft. sides and is 10' long, but is also an eye sore in the back yard.

The 4500 is looking better all the time, just for the "piece of mind" part when hauling a large load.

Fatcat the g56 in a 3rd gen , the pto is set to be mounted on the drivers side of the transmission. it needs a forward out put only as your transfercase is in the way the pass side of the the trans has the exhaust there. . the pto prep is basically a different floor hump to clear the pto and the cruise to set pto speed option. . it can be added to a non pto preped truck but you would need to cut and weld in the floor hump. . one of th eother posts about teh 4500 and 5500 has a link to the prep stuff. . as for the rear plate on th edump . . you can get most shops to do that or if you weld do one up your self. .

Thanks
