well transmission finally is feeling not normal and started happening tonight, went and saw a movie, and on the way home i noticed it wouldn't shift into overdrive, and when i come to a stop, the engine is going boost is about 12psi, and i'm not really moving all that fast, until i get up to about 30mph then it accelerates normally, (normal city speeds) i haven't gotten on it yet, but feels like the bands just aren't holding in first, for a few weeks it was shifting kind of hard, to 2nd, but then normal after that, now if shifts really softly into the gears, but doesn't want to get off the line very well, i've read that there are some band adjustments that i can do, any that i should try? i'm already trying to get money together for an ats, but i need it to run until i get that, so any things i can do to get it t last a few more weeks, please respond quick, have to work in 11 hours thanks

To me it sounds like the trans is in default mode, its starting out in 3rd gr and not shifting to OD. Until you get it fixed,go very gently taking off from a stop til about 30mph. If you hot dog it in limp in youlll trash 3rd gear. There may only be something simple wrong like a governor soleniod,or pressure sensor. Next time it does it try shutting down and cycling the key once, see if it behaves normallly a short time again. you can replace the trans or get it rebuilt,or upgraded, but if its something simple,id get it going again.

actually now that you mention it, it does kind of feel like it is only in 3rd gear, how would i check to see what it is that is happening to it, i'm thinking about going for a ride in a few minutes, (letting it cool a little) before i drive it again see if it goes into first or not, because coming home from work about 3 hours ago it worked fine i don't get it, but o well

ok just went for drive, and i noticed if i put it manually into 1st or 2nd it will go into 2nd gear, not first, and when i put it into drive, i have 3rd gear but no od, so basically i have 2nd and 3rd but i have to manually downshift to have 2nd, i pulled the transmission dipstick, and it looked pinkish to me, not red and not brown, more of a pink color think changing the fluid is at all worth it or adjusting the bands? or should i just go get the money and buy a transmission, if i can??

Sounds like a Governor Pressure senor and/or the Governor pressure transducer. I would take it to a local Reputable transmission shop and have that checked. It may buy you some time while you continue to save for your Upgrade

if you want to take a good chance replace both gov sol and gov pressure sensor. These parts will run you about 150-200 buck,if you can service the trans you can replace these parts. you'll need a " lb torque wrench ,the sensors are easy to get to /see once the pan is off. Until you get it ifixed go very gentle taking off. And do not drive it more than you need to. A good trans shop shoud be able to diagnose you in 5 minutes with a pressure guage.

Why don't you give Clint a call at ATS?

He or Mike or Jeff or somebody should be able to give you some ideas.

If you want to call them, their number is 800-949-6002

I think you're smart to want the ATS. They've done the most thorough job of engineering of all the Performance Trans builders in my opinion. Here is a thread I posted when I got back from getting my ATS Trans 2 years ago.

where do you suggest i get the parts at, i think the only place around here i could go would be my local dodge dealer, i work at kragen so they kind of give me a deal. but i dunno where else to go locally

Don't let my kidding around throw you off, rrausch is just sort of a broken record . ATS is a fine company with exellent products and good customer service. My own transmission is an ATS and I am very happy with it.

Now go easy on me Jim Shaw.

There is some TDR History at work here which you may not be familiar with.

The first ATS Thread was posted in the fall of 2001. Immediately there began a sort of character assassination against ATS. For over a year just about every ATS Thread was taken over by owners of another Performance Transmission and ATS reputation was run down by people who said "it couldn't be done".

I was one of the first TDR members to plunk down cash for an ATS trans, back in the spring of 2002. I watched my trans being built, and I was immensly impressed by the level of planning and engineering which went into this trans.

Those of us who love our ATS transmissions began to fight back against what we perceived as unfair attacks against ATS. Our persistance paid off, and ATS has achieved respect on this board.

I have built (stick) transmissions, engines, barns, houses. I've restored and rebuilt trucks and tractors and all sorts of devices. I know Great Engineering when I see it, and I know "It'll-Get-You-By" Engineering. This is why I stress that ATS does indeed do the best and most thorough job of Engineering.

By the way, did I tell you about the Thread I posted when I first got back from... Oh Never Mind!:D ;) :) :p :-laf

is it just me or did transmission prices go up from suncoast, ats, and dtt? and i'm kinda confused on what one to go with, i have friends that have suncoast transmissions and they hold very well one runs low 13's and has never had a problem with his, and another ran a 12. 2 and they both do truck pulls everyseason, kinda go against eachother, but i noticed the suncoast is the most expensive, i'm sure you pay for what you get, but any recommendations??

I can't tell you about the others, but DTT's prices went up a couple hundred bucks between when I got a quote last year to now. HOWEVER, I don't regret waiting (I had to anyway$$), because they've added yet a few more goodies that wouldn't have been in there if I had it done last year. The billet input shaft went up 100 bucks, but such is life. I know I won't regret it when it's done. 19 days and counting until DTT goes in. :D Not that I'm excited or anything! :D :D

well i noticed they all went up about 500 bucks give or take the suncoast is almost 4g's now and ats and dtt is about 3500 not including installation shipping and whatever else they charge, when it was installed how many people had their transmission cooler and lines flushed?

cycle the key three times to read the codes from the ECM. That's how I found out that I have a pressure solenoid/transducer problem.
