I thought it was just a few years ago that Gov Bush and your legislature refused to allow offshore drilling. If it were corporate run big oil would be drilling I am sure.
That's just one issue. You'd have to see what I mean. All zoning, realestate, tax incentives, etc... . are business driven down here. The state has the least amount of government as it relates public safety.
Regarding Vehicles: Florida has no vehicle inspections. None. Never. Any vehicle can be on the road or sold and then placed on the road. So you know what happens? All those vehicles from states who wouldn't otherwise let them on the road end up down here at the "buy here pay here" shops. Doesn't matter if they don't have brakes or turn signals. Another example -- When Jeb came into office he abolished the annual emissions inspections. Now you see little Yellow Toyota Tercel's in the left lane on I-95 going 45 mph with gobs of black and blue smoke spewing out the pipe. Taxpayers paid a ton for the equipment and stations and then he just set us back 30 years in smog control.
We have no mass transit system even though are roads are clogged and we have some of the biggest growth in the nation. We have some of the worst mail-order businesses (herbal viagra, etc... . ) and internet scams based in Florida because there are very limited consumer protection laws and the few laws we have aren't enforced.
We have too few battered women's shelters. Too few homeless shelters. The homeless are everywhere down here. Every traffic stoplight they've staked out their corners. Again -- the citizenry here is really not of much value.
I can go on and on. Florida really wants to court big businesses to come down here because they want the tax revenue generated from those businesses AND the employees to buy newly built homes. Housing growth is unbelieveable down here. Florida doesn't even hide the fact that it's pro corporations. Just check out the chaimber of commerce. Their focus is selling businesses on the fact that the state of Florida will not force them to be good corporate citizens. Just so the state can collect the Tax money.
It's not surprise that Biodiesel isn't available in a single pump in a state this big. I'm not sure the true reason why the refused to outlaw offshore oil drilling but I have got a good idea -- I believe they're protecting the beaches and the tourist industry.
Again -- Gotta keep those taxes coming in!
