My 04 is different (as far as the wiring, at steering column) than Bighammer's 03. therefore I thought I would be smart and try another "door open- key in- chime delete bomb"

I opened the door, pulled the rubber boot, in between the door and the jam, away from the door. This exposed the wires leading to the latch, and whatever features are in the door. I then saw a blue wire in the cluster. I cut the blue wire. Wallah, the door chime went out, and, so did the interior light, and, the headlite chime did not work either. :(   .

Talk about a small place to work to try to get it back together again with a butt connector  It was cold outside as usual, and I will have to admit to having done better work in the past.

Needless to say, my Bomb BOMBED :{

SO!!! henceforth, if anyone has a 04 ST plane Jane truck manual, could you look up the wiring schematics and see what color the wire is (at the base of the steering column), and let me know? I would sure appreciate it, and would be indebted to you.

There was post recently for Dodge Body Builder - a DC website with the 04 wiring diagrams. Try to search TDR for body builder. I had my problems with using 03 wiring diagrams and vendors unaware that 04 had different wiring when I first got my truck. good luck

I tapped into this!!!!!!!

WOW! talk about Greek! way over my head:confused: I could'nt find the wiring diagrams. I really do appreciate you pointing me in the right direction, but I'll have to admit that I am pretty much a dinosaur, I guess. I would need someone else to decipher what I see. Sorry

Pin 5 is supposed to be a 20 guage VT/TN (violet with tan tracer)

#ad

At the base of the steering column there should be a 14 way connector. (black) The image shows you how the wire connections are numbered. (and that it's between a slightly fatter red wire on pin 4 and another skinny black wire on 6)

If you don't see wires that match that description, DON'T CUT ANYTHING. It's a pretty simple task, but the wrong move could deploy the airbag and put your head in the back seat. Count the wires, check the colors, look at the connector, etc.

(This info and image is all from the Dodge link above. I have not seen or touched an 04 so I'm taking their word for it)

Barbwire, sorry about the first attempt. Hopefully this will put you back on track.

Thanks Bighammer, it is'nt your fault. I just do not understand why they would change the wiring on the same generation of trucks, when little else gets changed. Although, it may be the difference in the fact that you have a Laramie, and I have the plane Jane model. Although some basic things should be standard anyway, IMO. BTW, I count 12 wires at that connector, that you speak of( on my truck). But I will look at the colors to see if they are there. Most likely because I lack power windows.

Thanks again, I'll let you know,"if I can keep my head in the proper unblown off location anyway".

YYYYEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!

With Bighammers help, I finally succeeded in eliminating the "door open" chime. What a wonderful sound!

The wiring diagram is different than the one shown above, however the violet/with tan tracer is the correct color. For some reason or another, I have only a 10 pin connector. And the wires are in this order, RED in pin #5, BLACK "and" the VIOLET/TAN in pin#4.

Anyway, cutting Violet/tan wire only eliminated the door open chime. Everything else still works. Lights on/door open, still works . interior light still works. Everything is hunky doory.

Tunes/wdoor open R us. Yeah!

just when you thought you had it figured out

went out and looked at the wifes

same 14 pin connector

all different colors

got out the wiring diagram (pg 8W-80-67)

(the '03 service manual volume 2 that no one on this board seems to know about, but that's another story)

it is a light blue wire in position 5

if anyone would happen to need a copy i can scan it

no more door dinggy Oo.

Just 2. I have the 6 speed so I don't think I would use it. I suppose if I dig out my reciept and call them, I might be able to get it for somebody who would. I thought all the o3 autos were 48re.

I'II record it on a cd and send it to you, Mr Fisherman:-laf .

Hey how is the weather down there? are you in the tornado watch area? We still have 28 inches of snow in our yard, and 5 ft drifts.

For those that subscribed to this thread...............

Read my next thread entitled "Sorry guys, I guess that I goofed again" Turns out that the "Violet/tan" wire clipping was just a partial fix.

Ordered my manuals ( 03 ) in Nov 03 and got 3 volumes. I guess they were emptying the warehouse.

Yes the 03 & 04 wiring is different and I might suspect the 04. 5 different again as the ECM/PCM and whateverCM's change: so does the wiring.
