FACTORY TOW MIRRORS ----AGAIN

What is your GCVW?

I'm looking to buy a equalizing hitch in the Portland, Oregon area. This is to pull a 19. 5 Ft. trailer. I already have the stock receiver on my truck. It will be a 2 5/16th ball. Any ideas? Thanks, Herb

Herb, I don't know about one in the Portland area, but if you are not in a big hurry try The Hitching Post on the East coast. They have very reasonable prices as far as I am concerned. Their phone number is 1-800-795-HITCH. I haven't ordered from them in a few years. I have to assume they are still in business.

Try 12 mile welding in Gresham on Stark St. That's where I got mine and I am towing a 28' TT. They had a good selection but prices change over the years. These guys won't impress you with their "customer approach" but do know their stuff. Hope this helps.

Hey guys,

I'm looking at possibly buying a 27'-30' travel trailer. I'm figuring I should get an equalizing hitch. Anyone towing this size range without one? Bad idea not to have one?
Thanks,
Dave

I use an Equilizer made in Lindon UT. They advertise in some of the mags. Have used for well over 100,000 miles with no issues. If you need more info e-mail and I will get you phone #. I have towed from 4,500 to 10,000 or so with it.

Look here http://www.eaz-lift.com/ for some information on hitches. I used to tow a 29' Alpenlite TT and found the weight dist. hitch with the sway bar to be the way to go. Just my . 02

I have pulled my 31' tt with out any equalizing hitch because tongue weight is only 900-1000 pds ant the 2500 with camper pkg doesn't squat that much. I was concerned more with swaying that weight dist.

Dave,A 27-30 ft TT is going to have quite a bit of tongue weight. I would spend the money for the equalizer hitch. Better load distribution as well as ride. I have pulled my TT ,which has a 900lb tongue weight ,with out the equalizer. I get less of that boat riding feel with the equalizer.

I hope you guys that are not using equalizer bars are using a Class 5 hitch and not the stock Class 3 that Dodge puts on, especially if it is the one subject to a recall. Even using equalizor bars on my 25' 3 axle trailer the stock hitch started separating. If I had not been a member and read the various links about the trailer hitch problems I would have lost a trailer eventually. I now have a class 5 Draw-Tite because Dodge does not and will not sell one. They did however compensate me for the new hitch after I returned the broken one to the dealer.

My factory hitch says it's a class 4 rated to 10,000 lbs. It's not included in the recall. The trailers I'm looking at are in the 6,000-9,000 lb range. Will the factory hitch be safe?

Rick,
Which hitch has a recall. I don't want troubles with one. Thanks, Herb

Dave for big loads it is a must. It turns your rig into a stable platform, kinda takes the hinge out of the middle.

The dlr told me my 2001. 5 didn't need the recall. I saw what they did on my 99. It showed a slight rust line where they put the angled added supports. I told them there were signs of a crack but they didn't replace it. It makes me wonder whats diff about my new trucks hitch, better steel? Seems stupid to me, probably the same thing. Makes me think I should upgrade the hitch.

Thomas, Thanks for the recall info and web address. Maybe DC owners in those recall years will also read it. Herb
