I wonder how hard it is to add the power mirror switch to my truck. I love my factory tow mirrors ONCE THERE ADJUSTED but its a pain constantly realigning them when you flip them in or out. My truck is prewired for the mirror heat feature so I wonder if its also prewired for the power mirror switch also? The new slide out power mirrors by CIPA look awesome, theres a picture of them on page 73 in the new TDR issue. Why couldn't DC offer these!!:{

I meet a Ram with these mirrors Saturday on Hwy 126 East of Eugene, OR. Wondering if they are a TDR member? Looked good, looks like a super dooty. I suspect they are the same.

New Mirrors

Dune,

Looked at Geno's , Don't see what you are talking about. Is there another mirror besides the Xmount (from Canada). I have not received this quarters issue yet. I too have the towing mirror and they are a pain to keep adjusted when flipping them up and down. The 2002 1500 has power and heated same style as ours. The mount is different though and they wont retrofit ours for theh 2001 and earlier. My dealer called chrysler on this one. I am almost to the point of buying the xmount mirrors but would consider another brand. I have the original power and heated mirrors sitting in a box at home. Only had them on for a month before I got the Dodge accessory tow mirror that look cool but are not very "user friendly"

Thanks

Towing Forum

Guys, there is a thread in the Towing forum about the new Cipa mirrors.

You can also see them at Cipamirrors.com (I think that is the website).

The power mirrors are for power adjustment only. They do not power in and out, you have to do it manually. Yes they come in manual, power adjust, heated, etc.

They are available from JCWhitney and some other places but it looks like Geno's prices are best. They are only in the latest Geno's catalog.

power mirrors

they look like and are priced about the same as the Lucerix, X mount mirrors. i wonder if they aren't the Lucerixmirrors, rebadged??????

Power Visions power in and out, but i think you lose some of the other adjustments????

Now that i look at 'em, i think the Cipa's may be rebadged Lucerix's... ... ... .....

Doc, the only "adjustment" (if you want to call it that) I can think of that you might lose with the PowerVisions is the ability to flip 'em up like the factory towing mirrors. Ours have the standard factory-type power adjustments for aiming, are heated and have power extension and retraction. Are you referring to something other than these adjustments? :)

PowerVisions

rusty, that's why i asked it like a question. somewhere along the line, i got the false impression, that when you got the power extension and retraction, you lost some of the aiming adjustment. if they power in and out, adjust/aim, and are heated, what am i waiting for?? oh yeah, i'm still saving pennies for the comp... ... ..... :(

Doc,

Nope, the PowerVisions use the factory wiring harness and plugs for the aiming adjustments & heat. You have to add a switch in the driver's door panel and run a PowerVision-supplied harness from the driver's door to the passenger's door for the power in/out function. Fishing the new harness through the rubber boots between the doors & cab was the hardest part of the job! ;)

I think the CIPA mirrors look to be re-packaged Lucerix. I'll call my contact tomorrow and see if this is the story.

FWIW, the Lucerix X-Mount do plug directly into the 98+ wiring harness. That's how I learned the connectors are made by Yazaki.

There's a pretty good article on the Lucerix mirrors in this months (Feb) issue of Trailer Life. You might want to check it out. The install is even on a Dodge! Gotta say my pennies for a set myself, they sound great.

I ordered mine from Lucerix; they came in yesterday. I'll be installing them early next week. With freight it was under $400.

There in the Geno insert to issue 35... ;)

Because of this thread, I went ahead and installed the Lucerixes today. Took about thirty minutes. They look good, work good, and kinda look like the Phord mirrors, only bigger.
