Castle Doctrine Redux

1979 Kw W900a

I have looked into them pretty seriously, but I can't afford another payment right now!

They are pretty cool, I would love to have one, make a nice trailer to go behind it, put snowmobiles on it and go into the backcountry.

Mid-'90s models go for anywhere from $25,000-40,000, depending on hours and condition. Not too bad really. Of course maintenance costs will be higher, tracks cost more than tires, but the cool thing is most of the newer ones run the 4BT Cummins (the older ones usually ran Ford gas engines). That would be a sweet machine to BOMB!

Anyway, I just thought it would be a great utility vehicle for mountains and beaches and such, and of course they can be used year round if you change the winter steel tracks to summer rubber ones.

I have looked into those, also, Mike. Guess how much they want for the Super Duty models? I haven't asked them about prices lately but they were going anywhere from $12,000-$14,000 for the set of four!

WOW that is pretty pricey! i guess i'll have to pay the truck off first! there is a set on ebay right now but they are for a hummv. maybe we can get a group discount, LOL!! :-laf :-laf

I actually just emailed them asking for a quote and the nearest dealer. when i get it, i will post the price. expensive i'm sure!! :{

Mike, be careful talking with those guys there! They are wicked salesmen! The one guy from Minnesota I talked with a few times was very nice until I told him I wasn't going to buy any at that time. I told him when they lower the price by half I will consider it. He then called about once a week for a month asking if I was still interested, not harrassing really, but desperate. There is nothing electronic, nothing but steel, rubber, and bearings. Why do they have to cost as much as two BRAND NEW snowmobiles, or as much as a 10 year old TRUE SNOW CAT?

I know, I know, they are the only ones making them. Maybe I should make them at half price?

Anyway, I know they are great products, but not for that price.

Maybe we should get together and develope something better and cheaper!! Sorry to hear about the poor customer service. what part of colorado are you from? i've got some friends in Silt, i think that's right, Co. And thanks for the warning, i'll have to watch out for that. #@$%!

Price update for Mattracks

the fellow at mattracks emailed me today witht the price for the 3/4 ton through 1 ton models... . $29,000 to $33,000 depending on which model you get. How in the hell are you going to spend that much money for something like that? oh, and it comes with a one year warranty... . i would be better off getting the truck stuck real good and then just buying a new truck, LOL. maybe i will come up with a different design. #@$%!

HOLY $%^&!!!!!!   :--)

Man, they must really be proud of those things!

I can't believe that, do they actually sell any of those things? I guess they must, but holy cow! i could by a whole nother truck for that! Sure makes the snow cat look like a heck of a deal.

... so much for that idea, i guess it's back to the snow cat. . :D

They must have gone up in price! What a rip off! I could buy an early snow cat for that price and fabricate the 4-tread system to fit my truck!

Back to the Tucker sno-cat, I called the factory and spoke to a guy about possibly knowing of anyone out in the Springs area who has bought them. Turns out the El Paso County Search and Rescue bought two of them, both with Cummins 4BT engines. After the snow the past day and a half they used them out in the snow drift areas to the east and northeast of the Springs to drag out stuck vehicles.

I went to the EPCSR building yesterday and that's when I learned they were out dragging the cars out. It was on the news last night too. Anyway, Wednesday night they have a meeting so the guy told me to stop by and see them when they are back from the storm.
