I recently took my truck on a trip West Virginia and I found out some very interesting things.

Max boost runs around 5-10 psi higher 50psi plus was no problem.

Smokes more out of the hole with just my programmer.

Spool up is very fast even with just the diablo performance program. If I throw some of the juice in there it is very very fast.

Egts were down around 200 degrees. I had a hard time getting it up to 1500 even if I really tried.

Fuel mileage runs about 2mpg higher I saw as high as 19. 5 in Illinois and Iowa and I have a hard time getting 18 here. BTW I averaged 17. 5 for the trip running 70-80 MPH.

Overall I see low elevation having lots of pluses for a modified CTD.

I don't ever want to move to a low elevation again. I currently live at 2800 feet, but lived in the mile high city for 27 years. Low life sucks. :)

interesting about the smoke thing. My truck smokes more the higher i get. Or is it the more I smoke, the higher i get? Seriously though, i see more smoke at the higher altitudes.

Mine smokes like mad at anything above 5000 ft. Seems the turbo spools ALOT slower too. Power is way down. I always thought it was just my truck, but I guess it's a diesel thing. Pike's Peak felt like I was driving a Geo Metro. :p

yeah, everything runs a lot better down low!

when I drive from the cabin in Colorado (9,000ft... we get over 12,000 on a couple passes) headed back home to TX (home in Dallas is around 300ft... I'm at about 45ft here in Alvin! LOL) I always notice how much better the vehicle I'm driving runs at the stoplight in Childress, TX... it's at like 1800ft, and it's the first "stop" after a long decent, and pulling away from that light, it's always like "wow, this thing's running GOOD!" :)

and it just gets better from there

I live at 4200 ft and don't notice any of the things mentioned. I don't have a fuel box though... maybe that's a difference? I do have a AFE stage II, CFM+ intake and a MBRP cat back.

It's my understanding that the ECM will compensate for the elevation chances. I know this is true on a gasser, maybe not on diesels ?

I just drove over the Smokey mountains yesterday ( 6500ft or more at the top ) with no ill effects from my truck.

I know these mountain where I live are mole hills though compared to whats out west. I can imagine a 12,000ft elevation causing problems.
