NBC News Brought Me to Tears

I saw Rotella ELC for $15.00 a case...

What a trip!!! A friend and I attended the Texas Adjutant General's Sniper combat match this weekend, and we took the first place trophy. We were shooting M-24 Sniper rifles which are Remington 700's (. 308) on steroids. Up until friday before the match, we have never shot an M-24, and this was my first time shooting this match. We were in first place after Saturdays shooting, and we finished it off this morning after hitting 19 out of 20 targets on the first shot. The targets were anywhere from 250 to 775 yards away. The targets were at unknown distances. We had to find the target, calculate range, and fire in a short amount of time. I am not going to say who mised number 20 :rolleyes:

This is my first state championship, and I am still on cloud 9 :)

Here is the part that kinda stinks. We were invited to practice for the regional and national sniper matches, but since I got invited to practice for the regional and national pistol matches a month ago, I had to choose between shooting sniper or pistol. Looks like I am going to be shooting pistol, and my buddy is going for the sniper match. I want to do both :mad:

pat yourself on the back. . nice job !

I enjoy the shooting sports. . but getting older is not the way to great shots. . the ol eyes are not what they used to be :{

Congrats JC. Way to go!!!:D

I wish I had more time for things like shooting competition.

However, I'm only classified sharp shooter, no big trophies in my future. :D

Thanks guys.

Drawson It was a combat pistol match not IPSC.

Bill. My friend is talking to the unit we got the rifle from to see how long we can keep it. This rifle was new out of the box. All the spare parts, were still in the plastic bags, as far as we could tell it had never been fired. The unit that had this rifle never had anyone qualified to shoot it, so it sat in the vault for years. I can guarantee that we will keep this rifle as long as they let us have it.

Shortshift. Bullet drop at 775 yards is around 200 inches. It takes the bullet a little over a second to get to the target.

congrads, thats sounds like an awesome time... . where was the match held, Fort Hood? That would be a fun thing to watch... .

Glad your on our side!! Good work, now we have a target for you. He's got a beard and wears a turbin on his head... his friends call him 'O'.

Excuse my ignorance('cause I only know a little about guns), but did I read that right? 200" bullet drop at 775 yds? That's over 16 feet!:--) If I did read that right, what makes it drop that much? Is it a mondo sized round or what?

Speed racer, bullets drop when fired from a gun at the exact same rate it would if dropped off a three story building out of your hand. Weight of the bullet makes it retain velocity better provided the same aerodynamic properties, so in reality a heavier bullet will drop less over distance if it left with the same velocity. The time of flight of the bullet is where the drop comes in, the faster you move it to the target the less it will drop in that distance. Less time=less drop. JC was shooting a 308 (7. 62x51mm) which is a pretty slow round to start with by modern standards. Drop is not a big factor at all as long as you know how much you are going to have. The drop at 1000 yards is pretty impressive too! Hope this helps clear it up a tad without getting too technical detail oriented.
