For the most part yes and no... :)

I'm 900 miles from my pup and don't get to see him very often. Over x-mas break we get to go chuckar hunting quite a bit though, and that's what he really loves. He does however have a new pal to play with... My Mom sends me pics about twice a week of the two of them together. Chip (my dog, the GWP) seems to be training Sadie (the chocolate lab) very well. She won't leave the yard and doesn't have to be put in her kennel when Mom and Dad are away from the house anymore. Sadie's gonna be a house dog/pet though, not a hunter.

Two good-lookin' dogs.

No hunter?

Why not both house dog and hunter? I have a Springer that will hunt her tail off, well, what's left of it anyway, and is a great house sitter. Loves kids and won't let strangers in the house. She thinks she owns the world and just lets us live in it. But you pick up a gun and she is all about hunting. Won't even eat a snack at lunchtime and wonders why you are. I always thought you could have it both ways. I always liked GWPs. My dads buddy had a couple of them in Germany and hunted with them. Good no nonsense dogs.

Cause I'm not around to hunt her!!! My Dad doesn't hunt, so if I'm not around, they're not going to get to go. As far as bird hunting goes, I hunt almost strictly upland game, and that is almost entirely reserved to chuckars. I don't have time to teach Sadie to be a pointing-lab and I refuse to hunt chuckar over anything that won't hold for 10 minutes while I get in the right position to shoot the bunch (sometimes that 10 minutes needs to be 30 to get setup good). As far as quail and pheasant go, well, I'm just not around home while season is open, so I don't get to hunt them much anymore. My Mom got Sadie to be her pet... we lost our 11 year old black/yellow/golden mutt this spring and it took Mom a while to get over her. She was Mom's dog and hadn't been hunting since she was about 5. She garded the house and Mom while she was outside working in her Iris patch or the garden. That's why she got Sadie, to take Dolly's place.

Sadie just hit the 3 month mark and is becoming an outstanding pet. I'll probably try to hunt her this winter once just to see how she does... will get her used to guns the right way and everything first so she's not gun-shy, then go kill her a bird of some sort. If she takes to hunting like she's taken to everything else, she ought to do just fine.

If I were re-incarnated as a dog...

I would urinate on the tires of every D-max and PSD, and put a pile on every Prius (or any other "hybrid"). ;)

Sniff Sniff SSSNNIIFF

Guess where I'd put my nose when I walked up to the fairer sex to say hello?

Ah yes a dogs life!

Absolutely. On a good day I don't get treated as well as our dog does EVERY DAY!
