I was looking at the Cummins Quickservewebsite and stumbled across a performance upgrade for the 275 version and it was a IAT relocation kit that mounted the IAT to the top of the lift pump.

Any thoughts as to the advantages, performance increases, or disadvantages of doing this to the our engine??

Do you mean that the IAT gets moved to a location in the manifold just above the lift pump? Since the IAT sensor needs to be in the airflow to the cylinders, it wouldn't do much good to mount it to the top of the lift pump itself.

On the other hand maybe I misinterpreted something here... .

The way it is described, is that you get a relocation bracket that mounts to the lift pump and a plug for the manifold. Only thing I can think of is it will see cooler air and add more fuel.

pcarlson, I mounted my ait sensor on the outside of my bhaf. pm if you want a picture of where it is mounted. I can not tell any change by seat of the pants analysis, may be I will dyno some day soon and share the results when I do.

I believe ToolMan has tried this. He left the old IAT in place, plugged in the new one and left it out just above the lift pump. I am certain there was no difference in performance...

Whoah stmbled here just in time. Mark nailed it I mounted a IAT just below the cowl area as close to cool aitr as the harness would let me. I figured there would be a more aggressive fueling map deal that would happen but no go. Kinda boring in fact :-laf

Jtisdale I found this on the Cummins Quickserve site under 275 performance. I didn't bookmark it so I cannot paste the web address.

Maybe the answer is where I found it, under the 275 motor. Maybe the ECM for that motor has a more aggressive fuel curve. Thanks Toolman I won't bother moving mine, if it didn't work for yours than I am sure that it won't work for mine.

If I remember correctly, the reason that someone moved the IAT to the intake horn was so that it would not get so dirty and require regular cleaning when installed in its usual location due to exhaust brake usage. As I recall there was no performance improvement gained from that mod.

I relocated my IAT to the BHAF about 3 years ago. Like terrywerm said, I did this to keep it clean because it would get filthy pretty quick from using the exhaust brake. Gordon at Practical Solutions custom made the harness for me. I left the original IAT in the block.

Here's a picture
