Hi Gentlemen

I Was sending some Emails out to our friends on other sites, and thought that you would get a kick out of one of the happenings today that involves an old Motor that BIG had found when we were in Nebraska settling his Aunts affairs.

On their farm BIG went to what he called the pump house, his eye's lit up like a Christmas tree when he opened the door. He unbolted a rusted piece of junk in my opinion, but to him he had found a John Deere E, Hit & Miss motor?? I still have no idea what that is.

He cleaned it up and got it running, not very well by the sounds of it, but was really happy with his find. Before we left to go on this vacation he had started to tear it down and detail it all before putting back together. I had asked him what he was going to do with it? he said the cool factor alone is More!! than enough for this piece of History. (must be a Guy thing)

Today we went to Sevierville TN, we were walking through a Farmers Market and Gail heard the sound of a motor like the one he has at home. He doesn't often run but off he went pulling Zachary our Grandsons hand saying hurry up Zac!! I caught up to them looking at a Ice Cream Churn powered by the same motor that he has, BIG was explaining to Zachary how it works. They love their ice cream, It was a no brainer to see what was about to happen. So while my two little boys were looking & pointing, I got the information from the owner of the ice cream churn and its going to be an expensive toy, but I could tell NO was NOT!! going to work.

BIG talked to the guy for at least an hour myself and the others were getting hungry, the only way we could get him to leave is use the words FOOD & Pulled Pork Sandwiches, He was ready then.

We are going to Asheville NC this weekend for a visit with his Cousins & dinner at the Biltmore Estate. The parts for the ice cream churn are located in Wilkesboro NC not to awfully far from there, gives us a chance to see more of this Beautiful State.

BIG was looking at the place of the internet and took down some info and downloaded some pictures to take ideas from so I will put links to give you an idea of his toy to be.

Wow you guys are having an amazing journey!
In the fairgrounds of the NJ state fair, there's a ice cream shack that makes ice cream by spinning barrels spun by a hit n miss engine- I think it was a JD. I have to search in my photo files. They are quite popular to play with in the rural areas around here.
I don't know your interest level in NASCAR racing, but if you're headed to Wilkesboro, that's kinda where the whole thing started- with runnin shine and the home of some legends.

20 quarts of Ice Cream is a LOT of ice cream!

If that machine stays busy, Big certainly will become BIG!

Very cool by the way....

Big does quite well with his Pig's, he has a friend who's Daughters in FFA. She asked BIG if she could buy a piglet from him for her FFA Project that she intended to show in the county fair. BIG said NO MY HOG'S ARE NOT FOR SALE!!! then said but ill give ya one! That year she took Grand champion, I think BIG was more happy than she was. He raises Heritage Duroc Hogs, which until I heard him talking with some people in Alabama at the Auburn University Swine research Center (we stopped on this trip to see some internet friends of mine) I thought that BIG liked them because they are Red. There is a big difference in Pigs, my friend raises Berkshire. So Ya!! I think BIG is into PIG

Gail's not much for going around in circles, when we lived in Calif. we lived very near to the Fontana Racetrack. When he worked he was a Driver Trainer the company took the Trainers out yearly for a "Job Well Done Adventure" they flew us to Florida one year so they could have their Nation Wide Meeting and drive race cars in Daytona. They all got to drive a few laps the ones that did well enough that the school thought could handle more speed got to drive lots of laps. Gail Scared the CRAP OUT OF ME & My Parents that were on vacation in Florida at the time. When we were in Daytona on this trip he asked me if I remembered that time? We went to the Long Beach Grand Prix every year. THAT HE LIKES!!

BIG makes ice cream for us in a machine that he used a hand crank freezer and made it so a bicycle was used to power it rather than by hand. He's always fiddling around with some kind of thing. Uses the same bicycle for our milk churn also. But the 20 quart with the motor will be used for large parties that we have pretty often during the better part of the year. My Father & Brother are building a Pavilion with a BBQ smoker made from a Propane tank, my Father is into the smoking of meats Mostly Gail's Hogs.

If y'all make it to Texas and are on US290, tell Big to stop at the Burton, TX cotton gin museum. The gin is powered by a 2 cylinder Bessemer oil engine . (I just retired from the company that built this engine on 12/31/15 after 42 years of service.)

Now, back to the topic of ice cream. If you visit the museum, 5-10 miles down US290 is Brenham, TX where you can tour the plant and eat the best ice cream on the planet - Blue Bell Creameries (it's a Texas thang).

x2 on the Blue Bell tour recommendation! My folks lived in Brenham for a bit back in the 70's. Whenever I visited them I always looked forward to a little Blue Bell ice cream fix...

Going back to the park tomorrow so we are staying in Pigeon Forge TN

A neat little side trip just up the road from Sevierville is the Bush Beans factory. They have a small restaurant and nice little museum dedicated to the family and company. The staff are very friendly and the food is good. I was hoping for a "How it's Made" type tour of the factory but instead they have some interactive exhibits in the museum that walks you thought the process. The original family home is there which is well maintained and they still have some family and company events in. The thing I liked about the visit most was the family pride engrained in company pride and they value their heritage, both family and company. It was a genuine American experience.

Mel's classic diner off Wears Valley road in pigeon forge. This is their large, they do have a small. I don't know what brand ice cream they use but it is good stuff. Their shakes are real good also.

HOLY COW!!!! someone else is as Disturbed as I AM???

We picked up a few milk cans, the wife actually thinks that they're for her to use as flower pots on the Deck of the house :-laf foolish child.

The JD Hit & Miss didn't get even warm to the touch when I had it running for a half hour, I like the woodwork on the cart. I kind of like that sort of thing my own self. The cart never posed a problem for me now that I've found a use for the Hit & Miss.

I had the motor running and then have taken it back apart, it awaits my return on the bench in the shop. Will go to Asheville tomorrow for a weekend visit of Relatives and will make the run to Wilkesboro to pick up the freezer parts for the ice cream maker.

IM TRULY HAPPY TO SEE THAT IM NOT THE ONLY DISTURBED INDIVIDUAL ON THE PLANET, Ice Cream Makers UNITE!!!! :D

I was hoping to stay in Texas a little longer than we did. I was wanting to get some more of the BBQ down my neck. I had started with a couple of BBQ places in the Western side of Texas and was quite pleased with the reason for the stop. We went to Lockhart TX and so far both Black's and Kreuz are the best of the best on this trip, of those two Black's was awesome!!!!! We were hoping to hit more but the rains had started and as you probably have seen you all don't do well with large amounts of rain. When we left San Antone the water was rising PRETTY DARN FAST!!! so we went to AK. Then into TN and Nashville which has some pretty awesome BBQ as well.

Here in NC they have some delectable BBQ after eating as BBQ has I have ive come to think that they are all really good its the differences in Sauce's & not so much the cooking that makes it so good. Here in NC they have so many different kinds of sauces we try to buy at least a bottle or two of each for when we get home. Blacks was beyond belief we bought several cases of their sauces. If you ever get there the chopped brisket and beef ribs were the ultimate IMO. I didn't like the bun I asked if they could just give me a pile of the Chopped Brisket and some bread they did and I was able to try different sauces without blending any other sauce with the one I was trying. The Beef ribs where like something out of Jurassic Park, Frigging Huge is putting it mildly. I don't often like beef ribs but these were Excellent.

Big, I really hope you rode the steam train up the hill while at Dolly's! Also Craftsman alley and the Eagle conservancy.

Wayne we are FAR FROM DONE!!! with this neck of the woods, Yesterday (Please don't laugh) was terrible. Temp was 92* the Humidity was about 60%

I WILTED!! could not drink enough water to save my xxx. I KNOW, I KNOW its not even very hot or humid here for most.

Today was much better not nearly as humid.

Went to the Smoky Mountain Knife shop bought some knives for the wife and I bought enough replacement blades for my Capping knife that I wont run short for a very long time, and picked up an Axe and Hatchet.

The best find so far was a Fireworks shop in Sevierville TN http://gorillafireworksusa.com/ at home I use M80's to scare off bears, with these M 5000 the bears wont stop running until they are a problem in either ID, WY or Canada :-laf

I think the weather may break down there soon. It is up here now. Glad you're liking the area. Check the Titanic exhibit. Yea it's a trap, but it's a good one and supposedly the worlds largest permanent exhibit. Next to is the Hatfield and McCoy dinner theatre. That's a real hoot.
