Okay guys... Here we go. I am sure someone has done this or tried it. I am wanting to take my duals off and switch to single wheels. I have no need to take the quarter extensions off... . So, I am trying to find out how wide of a tire/ rim combo I will need to go to make it all fit towards the outer most sides. Backspacing also is a critical calculation. I have thought about pulling the duals off and hanging a plumb bob and measuring back to the flange. That should give me the offset. But what size tires can a guy get away with in diameter (35"?) on a non to 2" lifted '01 4x4? What are the widest tires a guy can get away with on the front yet still stay in the 35" or less area? The last part would be also with taking the dually spacers off of the front. I have found some 20 x 12's thru Centerline as well as some tires in the 35" range from BFG and from Nitto. To wide? Maybe 10's in the front and 12's in the rear?

As crazy as this all sounds... it has a purpose. I am no longer hauling my heavy 5th wheel and I am sick and tired of getting stuck in the mud. Seeing how playing in the mud is part of my job... I can not avoid it.

Thanx in advance.

Dave, I don't think our boy Kelly will be getting stuck in the mud take a look here https://www.turbodieselregister.com...eccentric-cam-bolt-lower-control-arm-4x4.html note pictures on permalink #7.

It's an option to single wide rear. Ever see a wide tire get loaded up with mud? Like trying to get traction on Butter. So there are advantages to dual wide tires. Kelly's running 6 - 305/70/16s I think they are BFGs. Had to get spacers to go between the rears. Only problem with Duallys there's not a great deal of aftermarket wheels available - especially if you are looking for wider than 6".

Thanks Joe... I have seen many trucks with that done. The thing is that I have 19. 5's and I can't seem to find any aggressive tires in that size rim. The main problem is the front. If I go into the mud backwards - she does just fine. But sometimes I have to go for several miles and driving backwards that far is kinda insane. I have seen the trucks setup like that do okay... . But they still sink pretty good in the front.

I also would like some of my mileage back. I put these heavy wheels on and lost 2 mpg. Now that I don't need the extra capabilities I think I would like to make the change. If I were to find a setup like what "Kelly" has for a decent price I might opt for a try.

Dave - I can see w/19. 5's sinking in the mud. Didn't see that in your sign until now. How about the big single tires some of the concrete mixers run? Probably too wide and tall. Might be OK if all you did was go in a straight line though ;)

Would look real cool too. Sorry not being much help, sure sounds like it would look pretty awesome though ;)
