I have been thinking of some ideas other than the BHAF for some fresh outside air to reach the filter before it goes into the turbo. Would any members like to input some ideas into how we can manufacture some hose etc to "grab" some fresh air from the ouside so we can get better flow. If someone has better software we can input ideas and someone can give a diagram at how it looks. We can probably get materials from Home Depot etc. I feel that the BHAF sucks in all that hot air under the hood and the K&N I have now in the stock box just does not give enough air. I dont like the idea of Psyschotty(sp) (cutting holes ) but like the idea of some kind of hose next to the radiator and the passenger headlight then going to the filter then to the turbo. . Suggestions :D :D

Temps

While at the D/FW duno session last week, Dezzul1 had a two position temp guage temp mounted one one the filter one on the outside of the truck, the temp differences were between 8-12 degrees from the filter to the outside air. I'm sure some others are better at R/D thatn I am but that was my observation.

After having an intake temp gauge for over two years and just recently playing around with a recording thermograph under the hood I've come to the conclusion that except for towing in the heat of summer that underhood air is just fine. In fact it is better for the cooler times of year. Ideal intake temp range post intercooler is 50°- 90°. When it gets below 32° I have a hard time getting the intake temp while moving over 40° even with a winter front, fanless and stock air box snorkel removed with the wheelwell hole taped shut. Last year I left my truck in that condition until May when the outside temps were over 75°, the intake temp still never went over 90° while moving. Take a look at large stationary diesel engines and see where many have the filter intake, right on top of the engine behind the radiator. I am even considering making a turbo shield to direct hot air at the air filter for the colder times of year much like a gasser intake is designed for warm-up.

Guess what I'm saying is underhood air is no big deal for most of us much of the year. If you were to design a outside the underhood intake it would be best to have an easy way to disable it for the cold times. If you still feel the need you can wait awhile, K&N is coming out with an intake that will draw air from behind the grill for our trucks soon, uses the re0880 filter. They've had this for PSDs a few years, it's a sharp looking setup that uses the hood for the top side of the air box.
