I am a new member to TDR and all I can say is WOW. This is by far the most informative site I have ever belonged to. I am NEW to diesels but not new to spinning wrenches as I have been into street cars and bikes all my life. After I bought my '95 2WD,auto,dually last year,I was hooked. The guy I bought the truck from did not know alot about it as he was just a used car salesman. He told me it had a '97 pump (Thats a good thing)injectors and a #6 plate. I know for sure that it has full 4' exhaust with no muffler or converter. It also has a K&N cold air induction kit. Is there any way of identifying injector size???Can the year/HP rating of the pump also be identified??Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

First off, Welcome to the TDR. The pump should have a serial number on it, take that to a local Bosch repair shop and have them check to see what pump it is. The injectors you would have to pull to get the numbers off the bodies and tips to check them.

My guess would be the pump that is used on the '97's w/auto trans. , 180hp engines. This is assuming a stock turbo.

The other version would be the pump from a 215hp truck w/ manual transmission.

The injectors, have to pull to make sure. Somebody could've even put bigger tips on the stockers.

Thanks guys. These are the numbers I found on the pump R4864302 and M064522. Can anyone identify these numbers so that I know exactly what pump I have?I love this truck. I just hate not knowing exactly what has been done. Thanks

Those numbers don't ring a bell to me or to Cummins' Quick Serve online parts search. If I remember right there is a plate on the drivers side of the pump and a plate on the govenor housing on the back of the pump. The serial number should be on one of those 2 plates.

Nathan

If you get the CPL number off the tag on the side of the pump you can go to the PDR site and see what it is.

A 3000 GSK, some 215 hp injectors and a good torque converter will transform your truck if it's stock. The '94-'95's had really loose converters and pumps that defuled early.

Thanks for the help. Those numbers came off a plate on the drivers side of the pump. Plate had MOPAR on it. The CPL identifies the engine as a '95 like it should. This doesn't help me as I was told it had a '97 pump in it. I will look for more numbers on the governor housing. Truck also has a descent transmission with SOME good parts in it as well as a converter with billit cover. Again,I don't know which make of converter it is???Not knowing just kills me. I'm not affraid to spend some money and will be doing just that in the near future,(transmission, converter, etc). Thanks, again

Took AFC housing off and found out it has a #5 plate full forward. Thats 1 thing I know for sure so far. AFC was also full forward and spring /star wheel is also full forward (loose). I have to get back inthere today as I believe the arm is riding under my fuel plate. When I checked it last night it was just barely kissing my fuel plate and riding under it. I checked it WITHOUT the fuel shut off rod up/open. Ive been told this makes a difference???I will also be trying to get those numbers off the back of my pump to see if it really is a '97 pump???

I got a chance to look at the back of my pump today. I was told it is a '97 pump??Here are the numbers RQV 400 1250PA1212K CDC N 392 9688. Can anyone help me identify this P7100 pump/?? Thanks

RQV400: deals with the the type of govenor it has

1250PA1212K: is long enough to be a Mopar number but I'll see if I can't check w/ a dealer about it on Monday.

3929688: Is a cummins number and its for a 180hp 96 auto truck. Which goes w/ CPL # 2022. CPL list

First I want to say thanks for the help. ndurbin,do you think it is a '96 auto pump??the '97 auto used the same pump if i'm not mistaken. I say STOCK 180 pump is better than STOCK 160 pump???. I'm happy. I did find a little plate under #2 delivery valve. Second set of digets are 0 402 736 885. It was hard to see the last 3 digets (in the dark with a flashlight. I believe they are correct???? Thanks

According to the Cummins Quick Serv parts lookup the 3929688 is for the injection pump on enignes w/ the CPL #2022. Which CPL 2022 on the list in the link is for a 96 180 hp auto (non-EGR). The 96-97 pumps are probably pretty similiar if not the same. And your right the 180hp pump is better than the 160hp pump.

Thanks Nathan and everone who has helped. Nathan,is that Cummins quick serve parts look up a website or a manual???If it is a web site,I can't seem to find it???Anyways, thanks again for the help. Next items are CHECK where my timing is set at,3Kgsk,injectors (what size???) and replace the stock HX35W with something???HX40,BD super B single or????? Keith

Cummins QuickServe

I beleive you can get one ESN free w/ limited parts look-up and for about $50 a year you can get upto 5 ESN with everything it offers.

370s are probably the best bang for the buck as far as injectors anyway. Your HX35 wold probably be alright for 300-450 rwhp with an exhaust housing (14cm wastegated or 16cm non-wastegated) swap and ya keep the boost PSI below 35 or so.
