Im on the familiar side of the full floating 14 bolt diff's but have no idea what Im actually looking at on my 07' 2500. it appears to be a Trac Rite carrier. can someone confirm this by the pictures ive attached.

Thank you for the info, thats what i was thinkin. I had at ton a metal chuncks in the diff and trying to figure out where they came from. Everything seems fine after i tore it all apart so i at a lose.

well real poor fuel mileage like 10.5mpg and I started thinking maybe something was dragging in the rear diff and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to change the gear oil. I did replace the 2 big bearings that the case/ ring gear ride on. they were scarred and pitted pretty bad. i'm stumped on this fuel mileage thing, no smoke what so ever and i started noticing the "gear slap" or "timing rattle" at about the same time as the loss in fuel mileage.

There you have the place where your metal debris came from, the worn carrier bearings. I thought the contact pattern of the gears looked not so good at all.

Fuel milage must be searched other places, the diff will never affect it that badly where you are now. Maybe a little but not that much.

Best you do a new thread about the fuel milage then others will chime in to that problem.
