I am wondering which rear end I have... . The tab on the housing is not legible. I do have the six speed trans. I am wondering how to decifer the last six digits of my vin that may tell me what I have?

The fact that I run about 2200rpm at 65-70mph leads me to think I may have the 4. 11. I dunno? baron :-laf

Get the rear wheel valve stem at the bottom then mark the drive shaft drive truck slow while counting the number times drive shaft rotates to rear wheel rotation. That will give you the rear axel ratio.

ya mean like lean out the door of the truck and count the no of times the drive shaft goes round in one wheel revolution???? sounds dangerous

No jack up the rear end to get the wheels off the ground and then count. Not nearly as dangerous.

If the tag is missing from the underside of the hood, you could take your VIN # to a dealer and ask them to print out a build sheet.

Much thanks to tommy gun out favorite online dealer for printing out a build sheet for me . Man my truck is loaded with stuff I didnn't know about! and a 3. 55 rear end I could not have guessed.

thanks TG baron

I dunno but I pulled that figure out of memory about the rpm @65mph. We do have the same ratio. Was yours born in St Louis? baron
