This is probably a dumb question but here goes. I was looking at some 97's and under the tach between the "check engine" light and the oil pressure light there is a light that says "GEN". Here's my question. What is that for? My 95 or any other 95 i've seen has that light. Just curious. Thanks

yea, bmoeller is right... the GEN stands for generator, or... alternator. . just another idiot light. . the battery gauge can do the same thing, just not as quick... .

I would like to know exactly what its checking too but it seems to indicate that the altenator is not charging the batteries for whatever reason. Not necessarily that the alt. is bad.

Mine came on when I had a couple bad battery connectors. The alt wasn't charging the batteries, even though it was fine as were my batteries. It just wasn't getting the proper charge to the right place. After being jumped the truck would run just fine off the alt and show just over 14 on the battery gauge.
