This past Tuesday we stopped for fuel before returning home. I drove about 3 miles to the fuel station, after sitting overnight in 50 degree temps. I waited briefly for a couple old guys(my age) to quit jawing and then pulled up to fuel. After fueling I got in and pressed the brake and start button and it cranked for probably 20 seconds. No fire. I killed the start and a message came up in the display. "Idle Control Off". I turned things off, opened the door, closed the door and tried again. Fired right off.
No DTC's.
Any thoughts?

What year truck?

There is a programable idle shutdown feature that can be set anywhere from 5-60 minutes. It has to be done thru WiTech or an aftermarket program like AlfaOBD.

I wouldn't give to much on it as long as it isn't repetitive. Can be just a single time computer glitch.
No Codes means no start point for searching.

why do we need the idle down feature? Thought the turbo is water cooled

The turbo still requires a cool down, thou it’s not quite as critical as with non water cooled turbos. The coolant mostly keeps the electronics cool, but also flows they the bearing housing.

The cool down table is in the diesel supplement.
