Hi Group,

I've been searching and haven't found anything about this, maybe it's too basic and maybe my search words have been faulty. When I bring my truck to a stop recently the engine does not drop down to 700 RPM right away. It seems to stick at about 15 - 1700 then s l o o o w l y drops down to it's normal idle which is about 700. Can anyone tell me if this is something to be concerned about and/or how to fix it?

Have you looked at the accelerator cable? Many early 2nd generations were defective. There is a factory TSB out on them. I replaced mine at 86000 miles. Some of them fray in the outer sheath and this keeps things from operating smoothly and sometimes will stick. Look at the end near the injector pump. if you see any loose strands you've probably found your problem.

I didn't know any of that, I will check it out in the morning. Right now it's dark and about 25 degrees. Thank you Gene.

Anybody have any other ideas? When I go out tomorrow it will be light but still cold and I would like to make the best use of my time out there.

A couple of years ago I drove a few trips a cabover pete with some sort of Cummins.

When it came time to shift that engine would appear to take off. . made shifting a real bear.

Finally complained to the boss that I thought there was something wrong with the boost or something. He thought I was just *****ing casue I hated a cabover,, but he finally relented and had a cummins mechanic look at it and he found some air or boost connection to the pump problem.

When we got the truck back it worked perfectely,, (well as good as COE can work!!)

Net: take it to a cummins shop.

Ok, Thanks guys. I have three things to check out. I'm not real clear on the third but I can look for hoses with broken places or loose connections or other things around the boost that might leak. I'll let you know what I find after I check the truck.
