My truck has a strange shift issue but I do not believe that the transmission is the issue. At times the truck will idle at 200 to 300 rpms in drive, idling a little rough. When I start from a stop the trucks rpms will drop and the truck will upshift and then back to where it should be at. My foot never leaves the throttle. I took it into the dealer and they told me that the problem needs to get worse. Any ideas? O2, speed sensor?

When it idles high is it trying to pull thru the brakes and take off?

When you shift to neutral or park does it rev then drop to normal?

Does the truck feel doggy until your up to speed then if shifts fine?

Does it happen consistently or just periodically?

If you drive into the throttle harder does it shift fine?

The shifting thing is what is usually called shuttle shifting. Its a feature of the stock trans. :D Not good for it for sure. The normal cause is the gov pressure sensor\solenoid combo.

The other problem with the idle jumping is a bit worse. Its hard to tell for sure but it sounds like the TC is going bad internally. The TC is essentially turning into a no stall unit and loading the motor to early.

No it does not idle higher like that, it for sure does not pull through the brakes.

When I put it into park it idles or neutral the idle goes to where is needs to with a small stubble every now and then.

The problem does not happen consistently. It is a random thing that starting to happen more often.

When I drive into the throttle the shifting is normal.

Today the RPMs when I started the truck today the gauge reading was in between 200 and 300 rpm and would drop a bit when I put it in to drive like normal. That does not happen all the time, usually the reads around 600 rpm. The RPMs never idle more then what my foot puts into it. When the RPMS are that low the engine runs as normal. The computer is not reading something correct, that is why I was thinking it was making the transmission shift worried because the truck does not know where the RPMs are.

Oh the dealer told me a month ago that the problem needs to get worse!!

Could a bad FCA be causing the low/varying RPM and that in turn is causing the trans to do funny things? Or could it be two completely unrelated issues happening coincidentally?

Pretty sure you have a bad cluster controller or communication problem between the ECU and the controller. That is a more than random issue on the 06's.

I am pretty sure the engine won't even idle at 200-300 rpms actual, the guage is likely wrong. Even at 600 rpms it should be really lopey and shaking the truck.

You idle should sit at 750 rpms, 800 if you had the flash, all the time when your not on the accelerator. The needle might wiggle when you put it in gear but it should not vary much from what it says in park or drive.

What you see on the gauges is fake, all of them. The ECU reads all the parameters and tells the lcuster controller what to set the gauges too. It really bears no direct relationship to the actual readings at times. The ECU is manipulating and smoothing those readings for visual puposes.

Either find a new dealer or do alot more yelling at this one. That is just stupid to say it needs to get worse before it can be fixed. #@$%! There is an obvious problem there and they should be able to verify it with their scan tools.

Well I have a bad cluster, I talked to the dealer last week about what I was told by you and what I found on this forum. I was told that it could not be the cluster going bad and they wanted to look at it again. I brought the truck in last week again and I was told I was right about the cluster. So I called Dodge warranty about my issues (bad cluster, heater flap, shifting issues) and I told them that I felt that I should not pay for all these issues to get fix because they should not be a problem at all. They called the dealer and told them that they would pay for every problem I have and update my computer with the new programs that have come out since I bought me truck with a some fee($150. 00 for everything). So as of today my truck is back to normal, all the problems where fix and all I had to do is prove them wrong.

Chock one up for the customer!!
