Here goes a stupid question, how in the He77 do you adjust the idle on these things? Mine is under 500 RPM's now. I have a service manual and I have done many things to the engine and truck myself (well everything for that matter) but after spending over 1 hour today, with the service manual and a trouble light, I still can't find the adjustment. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the question but I cannot find it!!!!

Thanks,

Brad

It is in a difficult spot but once you find it you will be able to adjust in less than a minute.

Just ran out to look for a good description.

I believe that it is going to be a 10mm. Someone correct me if i have forgotten.

1. Okay, it is at the same level as the bottom of your fuel filter where you can drain the water out.

2. Go about 6"- 8" towards the front of your engine still at the same level as the bottom of your fuel filter.

3. Find the mechanism that moves when you move the throttle cable. This is the one 6"- 8" to the left of the fuel filter.

4. Behind this mechanism to the right will be your idle screw(underneath). You will have to use a 10mm socket and the open end of the socket will be facing up when you get it on the bolt.

I only found it by feeling for a hex head with my fingers. It does have a locking nut.

Hope this helps.

P. S. I've never seen it but have adjusted it. Doesnt take much either.

Its at the back of the injection pump next to the block. Shine a flash light down to it. You will see it. Yup he is right, 10mm wrench. I use a box and socket. Set at 1000 with all accessories off and in park. Starts up real nice after its set right.

I cut one of my "low quality" 10mm box wrenches down to about 3 inches. This makes it very easy to get your hand with the wrench on it and adjust the idle. I also do it with the engine running but wear hearing protection.

I got it. Thanks for the help. Those pesky anti-lock's really get in the way of everything on that side of the engine!!
